The Rangers Saga and Fallout Thread

There's even trouble with the wording of the votes as it still leaves a route for Rangers to be put into the 1st division STV. Clyde wanting wording of votes changed before meeting on Friday.

Also, the Stenhousemuir manager has resigned for "personal reasons" many are thinking to do with the clubs position on the vote.

I see the "deal" they have come up with includes a 14 team SPL, a pyramid system(scheme more like) a fairer distribution of money etc. all dependant on Rangers getting into the first Div of course.
Why? What has Rangers in Div1 got to do with restructuring? They should be doing it regardless for the sake of the game. It's the carrot approach after the stick failed miserably.

Even more annoying is that only recently Neil Doncaster was going on about how much the SPL clubs would stand to lose by going to a 16-team division and that it was unworkable. The sum was reported to be around £20m loss, even more than being without Rangers.

Edit: Now currently standing at 17 teams against Rangers in the 1st, two for, after Arbroath, Peterhead, Elgin and Livingston revealed intentions. Time for the vote to change to a majority decision?

AGM at Brechin last night. The opinion of the season ticket holders are to allow Rangers into the league, but depending on whether the criteria will be met will determine whether its the 3rd division or the 1st.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven though. The decision should never have been allowed to reach the SFL. The greed of the SPL and blinkered views from the SFA have dragged the decision out over months. What are the top brass at the SFA and SPL getting paid to do? Pass the buck onto someone else.

On one hand, vote No to Rangers to the SFL and no doubt the relevant TV money is reduced / removed completely. As a result the SFA payments down to the SFL clubs will stop as they wont have the cash for it in the first place. Vote yes to Rangers into the 3rd division.....see scenario above regarding SFA payments. Vote yes to Rangers into the 1st, money will still be there but distributed more fairly, possible league restructure to allow up to 16 teams into the 'SPL', future voting on a 75% percent majority but no doubt in 5 - 10 yrs time things will probably end up the same with Scotlands 'elite' wanting a breakaway league so they can get more cash again.

Pretty much lower league teams equate to this :- you're damned if you do, and you're damned if you dont

If Rangers aren't allowed in the league then it could cost Brechin around 60k a season, Stenny quoted around 50k but for lower league teams footballing integrity could cost them their club in the long run.

SPL2 hasn't been mentioned at any of the meetings so dunno where you're getting that from.

Various media sources are saying it's an option on the table if the SFL clubs don't vote for the 1st division. It's another mess made by the governing bodies since they've screwed up this blackmail attempt as well.

If they don't vote rangers into sfl then spl 2 it's a cert.

Possibly but who would join it? I guess only those which vote for Rangers to be in Division 1 would get an invite.

Would it be possible for all SPL teams to then resign from the SPL and go back to the SFL? The whole thing is a complete mess and time to go back to basics.

Apparently Rangers can't resign from their SFL place for two years after being granted it, so even if they did go ahead with SPL2 the clubs would still be in a financial mess for at least that long. I reckon we'll have to wait three years before league reconstruction happens if that's true.

The SPL teams can resign and join the SFL I assume the similar notice discussed when Atlantic League was in the media.

Rumours of a vote of no confidence taken place for Doncaster and Regan today as well.

25 clubs voted for Rangers in the 3rd. 29 against 1st division.

Rangers are now saying they expect that the SPL2 option to happen and that they will be part of it and Division 1 clubs will be invited to join it from the SFL.
