The Official 'The Dark Knight Rises' Spoiler Discussion Thread...

No, not really. People need to stop assuming everything in the comics is the same as the films. Harvey Dent is Two-face and Bruce Wayne is Batman because they both play both characters in the films. Selina Kyle is not Catwoman in the films, she's just a thief.

Kind of like Victor Zsasz was in the first film but we don't know if he was the same Zsasz as in the comics (his name is even spelt differently but that's likely just a mistake)

Harvey Dent is never referred to as "Two-face" in TDK.

I thought it was okay; as Christian Bale says in an interview it is a mix of the previous two films. I think he meant philosophically. The thing I had a problem with was that the LoS wanted to destroy Gotham in the first film because it was decadent. Fast forward and they have cleaned up Gotham and the LoS are back. For revenge? But then why make them out to be the LoS? (I'll have a look back through the thread)

I thought Banes voice was fine; difficult to understand but very different.

There is not going to be another film. Quite simply beacause Robin is a utter NOOB.

It occurs to me that all the talk about whether or not Bane was born in that prison, whether he was the one who scaled the wall, etc, and how that fits in with it ultimately being Talia who had escaped, could all just be part of the deception. The whole thing is set up in such a way as to make Batman think that Bane is the one who escaped the prison, so it shouldn't really be seen as too much of a plothole for him to have misled us as well as Batman.

Saw this yesterday and it blew me away :) Christopher Nolan is nothing short of a genius. I really hope he gets the Oscar he so deserves one day (I don't think he'll get one for this though).

I really enjoyed the ending, even though I felt like the whole film ran at a normal pace and the last 20 minutes, it felt like the story was snowballing :p

I loved how they rapped it up so well though - The Robin reference was great, and the bit where Alfred sits down and you see Selina and Wayne at the table was nice.

Speaking of which, Michael Caine had some superb scenes, the bit when he was upset at the grave was pretty incredible :) I also felt that you saw a lot more of Batman than either of the other films, it was nice to see Bale do it so well.

I loved Banes voice, it was perfect. However, there were times when I couldn't understand what he was saying - But perhaps that's half of what's so great about it!

Eh, isn't that a bit anal? She had an outfit similar to a cat and was referred to as 'the cat' by the press. It's clearly supposed to be the films equivalent of catwoman!

I thought it was a great film, I did struggle to understand what Bane was saying though at times. Good twist at the end too :)

Plus, Christopher Nolan referred to her as Catwoman in various interviews. :o

this thread kind of reminds me of the prometheus thread, a lot of so called plot holes are simply people missing bits of the film or not understanding/remembering what was shown or said.

Also, with works of fiction, we have to take a lot of things on faith, not everything can be explained in minute detail. Take Bane - he has obviously had a tough life, that much we know. Was he born in that prison, or was he even born in a prison at all? We are left unsure, but he does state that he was born into darkness and didnt see the light until he was already a man. Either way, its safe to say that bane had a less than ideal upbringing and somehow found himself in the prison with talia. He was mutilated whilst trying to save talia, which is where the mask came into play, and its clear from those scenes that the prison back then was a far worse place than it is now. Now the prison is under banes control, and the prisoners are obviously kept in check by their fear of him, whereas when bane was in prison, it was obviously more "wild".

He wasn't necessarily mutilated, the mask just gives him a constant supply of painkillers. I believe there is a scar along his spine which may have been due to him getting his back broken by the other prisoners when he was beaten and the doctor operating on it.

Having seen it for a second time last night at the IMAX I think I can still say TDK is better for me. I think the opening scene in this makes very little sense and the last 30 mins or so is very....convenient. The amount of teleporting around (from the prison to right where Selina happened to be in Gotham for example) just jars a little.

Still a great film though

I don't know how you can call the events in TDKR convenient, you really should take another look at TDK.

Although they may look clever, every single one of the Jokers plans could have failed. They were just very "convenient".

And maybe Seline was in her neighbourhood? He did know where she lived. Just because he strolls out of the shadows, it doesn't mean he just bumps into her on a random street.

So what country was this prison pit in? How did they get Bruce wayne there and back? Getting back would be most difficult. No money, no passport 1000s of police after you. And no access to the island city and stuff?

Also the government did nothing for 5 months¿ just let bane take over and keep all those policies underground and the us doubt even send the army in. True he says he has a bomb. But how long can you let him go on without calling his bluff¿

why do people even care about this? he managed to get about with nothing for years in begins

its a man who dresses like a bat to fight crime with a flying car thing
people need to learn how to suspend their disbelief at this stuff!!:p

But he isnt a supernatural hero. hes a man who has some fancy gadgets and who stays trim. Exile resulted in death but this guy somehow made it across back into gotham undetected and without dieing! they could have shown that it could have been more interesting than some of the time spent overcoming his bad back.

Exactly.

Certain things don't need to be shown in a film. I don't think people understand how film making works. Many scenes are filmed and never make it into the final cut because they are just not needed.

He is Batman, a very resourceful guy.
