IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Anounnced with 128 player multiplayer

Microsoft Force Feedback 2- only available second hand, but it's built not on mechanical but optical sensors and will probably outlast most new joysticks. It has the best force feedback - wonderful in RoF, but also in Il2 and (less so, but still good) CLoD; it's among the most precise joysticks and has a smooth centre that does not get in the way when aiming. It's about £40 on fleabay, and it beats any other joystick feature/quality wise. It's even better than £250 Logitech G940.

RoF was coded with MSFF2 primarily in mind.

TrackIR is an awesome thing to have with flight games nowadays as well ;)

Hi Borcsch just picked up a MFF2 for £20 off the bay!!!

:D

Good man for listening and congratz! :D

I was expecting a £40 touch so I'm happy, some berk had one up for £65 , and another guy had one for sale with a hat switch that only worked in 3 directions, he said 'But you can remap that' - yes I'm going to do that mate!

:)

Will look into TIR after Christmas.

Wow, that's a great price! You sure you got MSFF2 usb, not MSFF Pro or some gameport version? Only kidding:) Looking forward to your first impressions.

You'll HAVE to try RoF now as it has the finest force feedback of any flight sim (just dont set it too strong so as not to wear out the mech)

You know what? I HAVE bought the wrong one...this thing has a plug on it, no mention of USB.

Jesus.

Oh man :( I forgot to mention it first time as well - sorry mate.
Gameport joystics work with older sound blaster cards apparently - but I do not know the details. So its either getting a sound card or a new joystick... There are also gameport>usb adapters, but I have no idea if they work without bringing in lag.

No worries, I should have made sure, I was trying to do 2-3 things at once whilst I was bidding so wasn't focused.

I've already bid on another, it's the right one this time. I'm going to get it whatever. Seller claims it's mint and been used once by his father (we'll see) - but these sticks are very sturdy I have heard.

Auction ends tonight.

:)

Ok fingers crossed. Yeah, they are pretty sturdy I had mine for a while now (bought second hand too) and heard very few reports on forums about them malfunctioning.

That IS about what it usually costs, let us know how it performs

Both came today actually, the one I'm keeping is basically brand new, and has hardly been used, no marks anywhere, the plastic hasn't dulled, and there's not even any marks on the feet.

:D

Installed with no problems (seemingly) even though the driver disc wasn't compatible with my system apparently.

Got ROF, now gonna patch up 46.

You got there in the end, good stuff :)

For Il2:1946 I'd recommend using edited FF, by default its way too strong and unnatural. You could edit it yourself with FEdit, I just replaced the FOrceFeedback folder in IL2:1946 with this already edited one: https://www.box.com/s/y0ugybyy1fkqp8ddedb7

For CLoD you can try https://www.box.com/s/7e88e8836034a0a35d11

RoF's FF is perfect without any editing

Enjoy :)

Cheers, I have got a ROF account, trying to get 46 to work with HSFX 6.0 without much success so far!

I hardly go back to Il2:46 now, but I understand that new 4.11 AI only works without mods, so I have just the vanila 46 (ver 4.11) now. I used to have ULtra Pack 3 and all this stuff, but that was before 4.11, RoF and CLod :) You could ask on sas1946.com - they are Il2 mods forum.

Can I ask what was so great about 4.11 that made you not bother with mods?

Stick good so far, I haven't been able to use that file you gave me yet, and the stick does feel a bit heavy.

In 4.11 AI is actually dangerous- it can lead target and is real good at deflection shooting. AI prior to 4.11, even when on your six, would shoot into empty space if you went into a slight turn. Complete game changer in single player mode.

Ah, that's interesting, ought to make it more challenging.

I'm more interested in single player, just need some decent campaigns the stock ones are pretty dull.
