Pretty chuffed.

Having written to some random people and sites begging for random gifts the one reply I wasn't expecting is the only one we received today. My boss who is a big Queen fan received a personally addressed and autographed photo from Brian May and a personally addressed and signed album from Roger Taylor

Brian May is an utter legend, he came to Scampton in 2011 and spent more time wanting to talk to the lads and sign the odd bit than to be upstairs with the winged master race.

:) Had "Christmas" about 6 hours ago.

You almost forget that it's all about being with family and friends, those people most important to you. So, naturally, being away means you don't really have a Christmas.

So there are only two things to do in this situation... dry your eyes princess and get some weight lifting done! :D

Merry Christmas!!

I fancy buying myself a decent daysac. Whats the top ones to look at?

Just wait till you get issued the new style day sack. As said before, I don't see any point in buying loads of kit, because we get issued pretty good stuff now. I'm so tight I've only got 3 pouches on my webbing, can't even be bothered going to stores and diffying extra pouches.

got to agree with this.
when i first got to my unit out of training, was given a pitiful excuse for an initial issue, so spent hundreds on kit, some was useful due to poor issued kit or just lack of it, the rest just either wasnt worth it or never got used, but these days since the PCS issue/Afghan issue i cant see any need what so ever to go out spending cash on non issued kit, the current kit is pretty damn good!:)

as for the new issue boots, they look pretty good.
our stores are currently waiting for the shipment, we were also told Nov, but that has been put back to the new year, our unit is fairly high up the priority list, so we should see them a lot sooner rather than later.

When would i get issued new bits (Boots, Daysac etc)? Once i get to my unit or once i start pre deployment training?

Is a jet-boil and a decent knife worth getting?

You can get all sorts issued, whether your stores gives you them its another matter.

Our stores is a joke. Even though I could get issued the latest day sack, there is no chance I'll get it. Probs because I'm not off to afghan.

I was up for buying "gucci" webbing because I'm in for a lot of fun next year in the field.

But I'm using what webbing you get initial issue (which is barely anything) and using that good old bidding site, i've managed to get a shed load of issued pouches to make it up decent.

All I need is a hippo pad.

I am not holding my breath for the new boots either, it's impossible to get mtp waterproofs.

Why the stores are a joke everywhere is beyond me. On army net there is a service that is going online soon where you can order your kit online to pick up in stores..... jog on.

Depends when you get there.

If you got there now you wouldn't get anything good unless you are best pals with the storeman, or buy him stuff.

A good gerber isn't a bad purchase, and yeh a decent cooking system for the field ain't bad either.

Jetboil is certainly worth getting. Had one for my PNCO, saved me a lot of hassle. I've not used it a great deal because I've not been on a great deal of green exercises, mostly comms ones, but I know it's always there for when I need it, much better than crappy mess tins & hexi-cooker.
