Rome 2 : Total War

Would wait for a few patches and a graphics driver update before passing judgement. Every total war game has come out with bugs including the original Rome.

Just give it a few weeks and it will be fine
 
Just Installing myself, doubt ill get to play much as I go on holiday at 4am :( I know how dare my gf book a holiday on the day TW r 2 comes out.

Guys just remember dont base anything on the vanilla game, this is just an engine the fun starts in a few weeks when teh mods come.

Example I played 1 campaign of the vanilla version of Rome 1. Would never of played the game after that, then I got Realism mod and ended up playing about another 40 campaigns.

Im yet to play it yet, But to be honest the game will be heavily supported and Im sure mods will be fully supported once again through Steam. So as long as theres no huge game breaking bugs winner.

Give it a few weeks and everyone will have there perfect mod.

Just discovered that :( The Steam update(about 90mb) took so long that I was able to get changed and find some food before it was finished. Says it should be ready to play in about an hour(although that estimate has been varying from around 30 minutes to over 7 hours). Regardless, it's going to be a while...
 
Campaign map lacks colour. Its so dull, grainy and foggy.

AI.....hmmm campaign map wise they loved to attack Rome with 1 unit of plebs, wont make a judgement on AI in battles yet.

It wont let me attack the city of Alalia. God knows why.

Not sure if I like the speed of battles now.

The city menus are a mess. Just horrible in design. They make me sick.
 
Just taking a little break, so far played for 5 hours.
I really do love it, I finished the prologue and thought it was very well done. Not overly simple for TW veterans to get annoyed with basic commands and still very newbie friendly. The battles are amazing and epic, the detail in the units I didn't see one person the same.
I thought id miss the speeches at the beginning of battles, but its been cleverly put in during battles. I ended up playing romans instead of carthage on the campaign map as I loved the red armour and shiny glint off there helmets:p
The ai while some minor hickups I thought was still challenging but then again I am playing on Hard setting.
I just love how boats can be in land battles now if theres a coast you can storm it like Troy beach landing (Troy movie) and press the cinematic button and just be amazed.
Theres plenty of nice touches and improvements for old TW players to appreciate. The diplomancy map screen, is so useful and well thought out, youll wonder how you managed before.
The only problems I could see were minor bugs that can be patched out. The game runs like butter at max settings on my [email protected] 8gb ram and 670 SLI on a res of 2560x1440.

you need to enter the red zone and then move again to declare you want to assault instead of seige.

Also on that one do an auto attack, if you enter the battle you will lose a lot of men because it takes forever to get the ships docked as there are not many points in the city.
 
What are you guys using for AA settings in nvidia CP? Not sure if something is wrong or the AA is just terrible. I don't see much difference between on and off in-game and there's a lot of shimmering/flickering in battles either way, it's a bit off putting. Aside from that I really like it - the new menus take a bit of getting used to but once you get the hang of it it's much easier seeing all towns in region in the same pane. I love the new armies too I much prefer them as their own entities not just a list of units in a town to split up willy nilly.
 
Downloading it now. Hopefully it will run well enough on my trusty old PC to last me until I've got around to building a new one.
 
I don't know if I'm being really stupid but I seem to have got stuck in the prologue.

I attacked the enemy siege weapons, routing their troops. The ones surviving ran away off the map but the prologue won't let me move on to the next mission.

Do I need to do something else or is it a bug?
 
Anyone else getting de-syncs when attempting a multiplayer game? Had one successful game so far and about 5 desyncs within the first few minutes.

I remember trying to play Civilization 3 on a lan with that happening all the time. Quite irritating

you could try validating the files by right-clicking on the game in steam library (if you haven't already)
 
Only 19GB, not 35GB that I read it was going to be. Could have fit it on my SSD after all. I guess it will increase in size with patches + DLC.
