Rome 2 : Total War

you need to enter the red zone and then move again to declare you want to assault instead of seige.

Also on that one do an auto attack, if you enter the battle you will lose a lot of men because it takes forever to get the ships docked as there are not many points in the city.

It wont come up with option to encircle, assault etc. Im in the red zone.

Battles sometimes stutter when moving camera which I find strange, I cannot get close enough to units to really see the frontlines fighting still abit to zoomed out for my liking. Was kinda hoping to zoom in and see some limbs being cut off.

Overall I found moving in a battle slow even when triple speed but when engaged it seems to be over quickly and I out manoeuvre the enemy damn quick and easy to flank (not complaining about that but it makes it abit easy)

So my thought so far -

I think it will be a great game but there are some improvements to be made. Some of them are MY fault and lack of understanding the game operations I admit and a lot of the below can and will be fixed with a bit of patching.

- Campaign map is too busy. The good thing about the older game was you could instantly see where your forces were and make plans. Here you have to sit back and work out what you need to do.

- Game does appear to be a bit 'treacle'. Many configs may suffer and moving around the map feels slow.

- Slow paced. I find it hard to satisfy my towns and expand. It seems my cities swing from really happy to really sad for no reason. I find the food/happiness balance to be a bit infuriating. I can't build because of food and i can't make more food as it will increase squalor. It's hard to find a balance. i'm at 214BC and only have the two Italian towns, Corsica and half of Sicily! In modern terms this is conquering the local cornershop!

- Research tree is a bit slow, I find myself with lots of money because I can't really build anything due to research and the above issue.

- Building armies. It seems each army stack needs a general, I can't seem to find a way to just build troops. Then I hit a limit with generals so I don't have enough armies to expand AND keep my home happy. I used the diplomats but again, can only build 2 so far! Even with these garrisoned cities still rebel.

- Battles a bit uninspiring.....I can't describe it but i've not yet had a battle where I think 'cool'. It's always 'how the hell can one band of peasants do that to my nice armored troops!!

Just Installing myself, doubt ill get to play much as I go on holiday at 4am :( I know how dare my gf book a holiday on the day TW r 2 comes out.

Guys just remember dont base anything on the vanilla game, this is just an engine the fun starts in a few weeks when teh mods come.

Example I played 1 campaign of the vanilla version of Rome 1. Would never of played the game after that, then I got Realism mod and ended up playing about another 40 campaigns.

Im yet to play it yet, But to be honest the game will be heavily supported and Im sure mods will be fully supported once again through Steam. So as long as theres no huge game breaking bugs winner.

Give it a few weeks and everyone will have there perfect mod.

A few weeks for a perfect mod?

I doubt it.

How do you assign skill points to a general?

It keeps asking me not to end turn because of this.

Wtf is this food/unrest nonsense?

How does increasing food have a negative effect on unrest?

Click your general at the bottom of the screen you should see an icon flashing with a little gold arrow.

Food you get more from building farms. If you get into minus food you get civil unrest.

Those who dont have their DLC code, my sainsburys email said this:

"Please note that this code will only be usable on the day of release - 3rd September 2013."

I presume that would be the same for everyone.....i would get on to amazon.

Fair enouhg. Unless they expire tonight?

It would seem an odd thing to do unless the devs are really limiting the pre order DLC

I don't think they'll expire, they're contracted to provide it surely?

Amazon told me in reply to my e-mail yesterday that I should receive an e-mail with the DLC code "after release". Goodness knows how long they mean. I was hoping same-day.
