About the MM

i think i got access when i was 250 posts and 1 year (or whatever the old access was).

Love the MM and have had nothing but good experiences on it. Obviously now i am well over the criteria but so happy i joined in when i did

I certainly value my access much more these days as I did have it taken away from me a long time ago :( (praise the mod for re-instating it!) While I don't use the MM very often, it does come in handy when I do want to buy something or have items to sell and it's nice to know that everyone in there has generally worked and contributed to get there. Less chance of issues.

I'm aiming for 10K posts now as I want my Christopher Walken avatar back! lol

I know you guys are trying to keep it away from the forum spammers, however, for longtime members like myself, I really could do with being able to see the marketplace. How about making it that it is 1000 posts OR 3 years membership? I mean come on, if you are still here after 3 years you aren't likely to be bothered with spamming? I've been here 8 years, and about 3 years before that as a 'lurker'! Spent plenty with you guys, just want a better solution than me having to spam the forum for a month?

so lurkers who barely ever post here but registered 3 years ago can scam people because they do not care about there forum account anyway?

To be honest I wouldn't call your pointless posts "contributions" to the forum either.

People like you are a reason other people don't come onto forums like this as much, the inside cliquey bs grates on people.

I use a trick that I know some of you aren't capable of doing but I'm going to share it.
If it's a Magnolia thread and you think it is going to be rubbish then don't ever click on it.
Simple pimple dimple.

The high requirements are what makes the MM a perfect place to trade.

very much this. Those that have been around for a while will remember hard drives guy. The idea is that after 1000 posts you give a fairly decent account of what you're like, as well as leaving enough information for the toaster to track you down ;)

Members of the MM need to have a vested interested in keeping their account otherwise the sanctions we use to enforce the rules wouldn't have teeth. You can't have a vested interest if it's easy to get access.

It's not just about spamming, 255 posts over 8 years, again is nothing, granted you're not spamming, but you're not even contributing, 255 posts for a regular member is accrued over 2 weeks to a month, maybe even faster than that If they are very good.

I have approx. 5200 posts over 8 years which is just short of 100 posts per month. Although I do have MM, I guess my level of posting is less than average? Having said that, 8 years and 5200 posts is the most I've had for any forum by a long shot :-)

i don't think i'd like to buy anything from there. :p

even with the strict rules here, i won't buy anything of value off people with a low trust rating.

Why? Post count or time registered doesn't make anyone trustworthy. If anyone wants to tell me otherwise, i'll tell them they are wrong. We have *extremely* strict rules when it comes to buying and selling. So we allow low-posters to buy and sell because anyone breaking the rules has their thread or post pulled, and warnings / bannings are quickly issued to repeat offenders (and our bannings arnt just from the trading section, its a forum permaban), usually within minutes, and those which dont get pulled quickly are avoided by the other members.

We're actually considered the safest to trade/sell on forum in our niche. With hundreds of trades happening every day, 99.9% of them all going on without issue.

In the last 18 months we have only had 1 legitimate issue, the others were all simply being impatient and panicing. Oh and that 1 legitimate issue, we have refunded the guy who got scammed the money from our site revenue, and are taking court action against the scammer.

This :)

I only bought 1 thing off the MM, but I still find it my place to go if I want to buy something.

Who are you?

No but they discourage would-be scammers because several months of consistent posting just to get into a forum and do someone out of £100 before you get banned and have to do it all over again isn't worth the time to profit ratio for the vast majority of people.

It might not make people trustworthy but it certainly filters out a lot of people with dishonest intentions by the sheer fact it's a pain in the **** if that's your sole objective.

Nothing that common sense would avoid happening anyway.

1) Pay via paypal, with a credit card as the funding source, make sure you pay the fees for buyer protection. Never pay with BACs/Cash/Cheque.

2) Ensure the person actually has the item, get them to take a photo with the date, their username and your username in it. If the seller moans about it, then walk away.

3) If in doubt, use a trustworthy 3rd party or escrow service.
