AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Rumours suggest the 15th.

Same day as the supposed Apple event.

New Mac Pro with dual AMD cards, I would be estatic if it was two 290's in some new Xfire for OS X. :D:D:D:D

New R9 290, for only £1000 in all new White shroud. 290X at only £1500. :p

I really hope the 290 isn't priced too high, and that is uses 2 6-pin power connections. I don't like how power hungry even AMD's "new" midrange is.

Fairly sure it's an 8 pin / 6 pin configuration?

If it is, I'll just pick up a 7950. AMD need to get their power usage sorted, the 280/'s(new mid range, using as much as flagship) also use 6+8pin, and I would have hoped for a refresh to bring down power usage. Instead we get a rebadge. :(

That's a thought, my 7970 platinums come with two 8 pin connectors.

Yup, same as a Titan, a halo card.

I don't understand all this, you'd think that they'd make more improvements and not just to performance. There's more to a card than pure performance.

I can understand people that like to overclock a lot, they want it to be able to use more power. Yet how many normal folks buy cards that like to draw more than their entire system combined?

I'm looking for a card that fits my sweet spot, at most 2 6 pin power connections, good performance, specially for OpenCL + GL, and doesn't cost over £300.
It needs to be better than the previous gen though, otherwise what's the point in it.

8 pin connectors aren't exactly new. Besides if you want the best performance available it's only normal for the fastest cards to draw the most power surely!

Like when the GTX 680 launched and had better performance than the previous gen and lower power?

AMD's current line up doesn't look to have a real upper midrange for performance to power ratio.

As I stated for me I want that sweet spot card, around £300, most 2 6 pin power, and decent OpenCL and GL performance.

Everyone has their own needs, and if your's doesn't match up to mine, Oh well. Each to their own.

I simply expected more after nearly two years from AMD. We'll see after official reviews and once the NDA has lifted though.

the 680 launched sometime after the 580? Not sure what point you're trying to make.

The fastest GPU is what is feasable at the time of design / production obviously. Only normal for things to become more efficient.
