AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Well if the press were told the 15th and if indeed that is the date on the NDA they signed, which is what we have been led to believe and then they don't release then. then it is late, you cannot get round that fact.

it doesn't matter if AMD only told 2 people in the world if they then don't deliver and say well we didn't tell everybody that was when they were coming so they are not late, it is still late and they are just covering themselves.

Now of course if the press weren't told the 15th then you would be quite right that in that case it wouldn't be AMD's fault.

Ok, apparently MSI, Sapphire and AMD for that matter have said this weekend it will be a few weeks till release. Whether that means the NDA won't lift tomorrow I don't know.

AMD just can't execute to safe their life.

They probably wanted to launch soon, but since there was no date set, can release it when they want to without an official delay.

So it's later than planned, but not delayed as such.

But all it's doing is annoying potential customers and making them just want to buy something else.

Haha this is very true, been saying this for ages. AMD always have great ideas but epic fail when it comes to execution. Makes me like them tbh, support the underdog, although these days they seem to charge to much for their new products at launch considering their 'underdog' status.

Back on topic of the delay, so far we had Videocardz say the 15th was the date, now Videocardz are saying 15th is not the date. Just proves that either way if we do get info tomorrow, Videocardz are just fishing for hits.

Also for this many people to be annoyed about the release date, shows that AMD are at least generating interest in their products, if not no one would care about release date.

Be nice to at least get some reviews / paper launch tomorrow.

I think as someone already mentioned previously in this thread that AMD is just holding the info close because of nvidia. Give them less of a chance to respond. Sure nvidia can still respond price wise if they get paranoid before the reveal but that also just about it.

This.

also people will talk about the cards more the less you know...
290 series is made for high end gaming, eyefinity, 4k etc...
for todays games and coming BF4 it seems to be a milestone for amd.

As above I've been told that Sapphire and MSI have said the cards won't be available for a few weeks. I'm assuming that means they're delayed.

How can a card that was never given a definite release date be delayed? AMD have never officially declared the 15th as the date they are available in retail.

Looks like I'm definitely not going for a 290/290x then. Got rid of my 6950 in preparation but the even longer wait for launch may have tipped me over the edge. Even it was just removal of the NDA tomorrow so reviews can be released and the price I wouldn't have minded. Looks like quite a few people have changed their minds on these cards from what I've read on the net.

Is the oct. 15th launch postponed or ?

Huh GTX 770 Ti with 1920 cuda cores ?

The 770Ti could have an effect on AMD's end price of the R290X and R290.

So, it'll probably be about 10% slower, but depending on the price, AMD will need to be around there.

This could mean the R290 gets a lower price, which is good, as the 770Ti you'd hope would come in at 400ish.

And this may also have a knock on effect with the R290X, as people simply go Nvidia more, even if their price/performance is worse.

I think many people aren't happy with how AMD have gone about releasing these cards. Lack of information has been the main issue and many seem to be frustrated by it. If the NDA was never to be set to expire on the 15th then AMD should've made an announcement that it wasn't as many sites said it was that date.

As annoyed as I am by all this faffing around from AMD (read media), I still can't buy anything happily without knowing what is coming next. So regardless of all this, I'll still wait.

As others have said, is it AMD "faffing around" or keyboard jockeys making it up as they go along, with people who hang on their every word then getting disappointed when their predictions - and that is what they seem to be, are incorrect. Where / when have AMD ever announced a release date?
