AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

You'd have to be crackers to buy a 780 now, the absolute worst time with an AMD card around the corner that potentially beats it soundly and/or a price cut from Nvidia to counter said card

The red tide is strong.
the winds blowing behind us the sun in our face agh thats the Bf3 one, and yes I would wait for cards out, reviews and some guys here buying them running games, and we need a shrine built to the 290 series the new 9700.

just hope reviews are out soonish.
the force is strong with the 290.

I hate Powercolor, if AMD are skimping here and choosing the same kind of components a 3rd rate AIB uses I will be very disappointed.

I've had 2 Powercolor cards and they've been fine. My 7970 over clocks to 1200 on the reference cooler at 1.81volts. Memory does 1700 and any cool whine is well under the noise any fans make. My 1800xt was decent as well.

That doesn't make it ok does it?

There's "could have been better applied", and then there's

As others have said, is it AMD "faffing around" or keyboard jockeys making it up as they go along, with people who hang on their every word then getting disappointed when their predictions - and that is what they seem to be, are incorrect. Where / when have AMD ever announced a release date?

That's the problem. In view of all the rumours, AMD should have come out and announced the release date, and stuck to it.

Instead, they let other people post "official" release and review dates, let those rumours fly about the internet and get amplified, and did nothing to prevent that. These are after all the same websites that AMD use to get their own messages out to the buying public when it suits them. All it would have needed was a simple announcement from AMD, and all that wrong info and rumours would have gone away.

Instead they let all their potential customers wind themselves up, only to have a big let-down. It's mis-management to let those rumours keep growing, just like the tech-day was mismanaged and made AMD look like asses right up until they announced Mantle. And even that was mismanaged, because a lot of their online customers bailed out before the end of the tech day, as it was so badly done.

Sometimes I swear the phrase "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" was inventing just for AMD.

Hope you've got waterblocks on pre-order too :p

Because distributors systems have dates given by manufacturers when more information is available, in this case it was Tuesday. However they've been given updated information over the weekend to let them know it's going to be longer.

It's not rocket science.

And because of the internet, information like this leaks out more easily and then gets moaned at by x y and z... Maybe AMD should have an "official" release date, and then stick to it, as they don't, I find it hard to moan at them because they are not releasing cards on a date they did not announce they would be. I think a lot of people are so impatient to get hold of these they stop being rational, its a 2 week delay, they will be here soon enough (if the latest rumour is true that is ;) )
