AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Looks like I'm definitely not going for a 290/290x then. Got rid of my 6950 in preparation but the even longer wait for launch may have tipped me over the edge. Even it was just removal of the NDA tomorrow so reviews can be released and the price I wouldn't have minded. Looks like quite a few people have changed their minds on these cards from what I've read on the net.

That's because people lose all sense of perspective and don't have any patience anymore. They also seem to feel very entitled.

My PC isn't suddenly going to stop working because AMD haven't shipped the graphics cards out. I've had my 6870 for 3 years, I can wait another few weeks. I'll carry on playing GTA V in the mean time...

It was only 3 weeks ago that AMD held the conference announcing these cards. 15th was just rumoured date for reviews/more information (and might still be the case)

If you look on Overclockers own site, delivery has always stated the end of the month and Gibbo said they expect cards either late this week or early next week. By the time they are in the hands of consumers it will be pretty much the end of the month.

As others have said, is it AMD "faffing around" or keyboard jockeys making it up as they go along, with people who hang on their every word then getting disappointed when their predictions - and that is what they seem to be, are incorrect. Where / when have AMD ever announced a release date?

Because distributors systems have dates given by manufacturers when more information is available, in this case it was Tuesday. However they've been given updated information over the weekend to let them know it's going to be longer.

It's not rocket science.

No it's not rocket science, it just common sense which clearly isn't very common.

The pre-order here on OCUK has stated 31 Oct 2013 since it was posted. Gibbo has made it clear a few times that AMD have not given prices or a definite release date and if they did it is under NDA. Brent on HardOCP has even posted to say AMD never gave a date for the NDA to be lifted. So yet again show me where AMD officially declared Oct 15th as the release day?

Just because a random tech site makes some **** up and declares 15th Oct as release day why does it suddenly become AMDs fault if this turns out to be made up?

So many people moaning that "AMD just lost a sale" because the release date they have in their head turns out to be a fantasy. Let throw our hands up in dispair and purchase a GTX780 instead, cus that'll show AMD for lying to us. It's amazing how internet hype works.

I'm telling you for a fact that distrubutors had the 15th as a date, whether that be for the alleged price NDA or a delivery I can't comment. But that date has now changed. That's a delay...

290X ripped apart.

Edit..if this has been posted before then Im going to be really upset:P

lol...make a wood screw joke now why don't you. :D

Absolute abysmal state to send a review card in.

Good to see it sporting Hynix memory. Would expect massive overclocks from the memory. Can see 400gb bandwidth being breached without too much trouble.

An official AMD slide said 15th, that was obviously the plan and nobody has cards, reviewers haven't been saying owt, so it's been delayed but AMD think because they never said anything "officially" they can't be called out on it. Why'd you put it in your slide then?

Comment from that teardown:

The chokes look very similar to what was on my stock Powercolor 7970. At least they start with '1007R3, R15'. oooh. They can whine under load. Not saying it will but if W1zz is reading this, mind to listen out for the boards electrical noise.
EKWB are making blocks for these so they'd be pretty fast under water (I'd hope) but if there's choke noise, it's not so pretty.

I hate Poowercolor, if AMD are skimping here and choosing the same kind of components a 3rd rate AIB uses I will be very disappointed.

All this anticipation is going to amount to "well they're alright". :D

Biggest hype train for a GPU in sometime, this :D.

Maybe that's been their plan all along, to ride the hype train as long as possible!

Just as people's itch to buy something is getting unbearable and they're about to hop off, they'll throw out the 290x at stupid money and rub their hands with glee while people buy it out of frustration... or something like that. :D
