Yes.

Mine hit 87c on gaming so I sent it back and I'll stick with the Tri-x which so far shows an average reduction in temps of 13c. I wouldn't go with MSI Gaming Edition if you don't have an uber cool case and want to Crossfire later on.

I received my MSI 290X R9 GAMING 4G today. But I'm a little bit disappointed... in idle it is 41 degrees warm (18% fan, 1000rpm, you can not hear it). But under load it becomes to a uncontrollable monster! In the Unigine Heaven Benchmark and Crysis 3 it is 88 ° hot (fan 90%, 2800rpm, quite noisy).

That irritates me ... do you think my card is broken? Previously I had a Sapphire HD7970 Dual-X OC (Idle: 32° 1200rpm, noiseless and 76 ° at 2600rpm when gaming)

My case (Lian Li PC-X2000FB) is well ventilated (5x 900rpm fans, 2x 900 Rpm CPU fans)

These cards do run a lot hotter.

But yours does seem a little hotter than normal, ideally if its a single card in a well ventilated case it should be around 75-85c at stock speeds, with fan around 80% which is still quiet on the MSI cards.
 
It surprises me that it is quite warm even in idle. Actually, there should be in idle less than 40° I think... here is a screenshot after 10 minutes of playing Trine 2 (Extreme FXAA + 4x SSAA" Setting):



The game heats more than Crysis 3, but 93° and 100% fan? That can not be true?! :D

By the way: Somehow there is a problem with the display port... after the standby mode the computer does not wake up, but with DVI it works. Maybe its a driver issue...

That does seem very hot. Are those fans at the fron exhaust or intake? If they are intake I would try swapping around and switching them to exhaust as the Twin Frozr throws air out its rear right where your fans are so you could be forcing the hot air back into the GPU. I have one side exhaust and mine hits 78c max in a crappy Enermax Ostrog case.
 
boni, use msi afterburner and make a custom fan profile, something like this bro

2x120mm front INTAKE
1x120mm left side (the first one on the left, as i cant use the 2nd one as the gfx power cables are right there) EXHAUST
1x120mm rear EXHAUST
thats it and my aegir cooler with fans in push pull towards the exhaust so it pulls it out the back of the case

temps about 70c max average like 58-67c
idle around 33c

Using RadeonPro I have managed to get my MSI 290 core running at 1100 and memory at 1400 with no changes other than the clock speeds, all else stock including volts.

Temperature after an hour or so gaming was a pretty consistent 70c, it seems like a very capable card.

Hi, the fans at the front are intake. I've tried it with the case open. So the graphics card comes into games and Benchmarks like Crysis 3, Unigine Heaven or Metro 2033 to 82°, that is 6° less as with closed case.

I had hoped that the MSI would be cooler than this :/

EDIT:

I reinstalled my Sapphire HD7970 Dual-X @ 1050/1500MHz. Where the MSI was 88° warm (fan 90% - 2900rpm), the 7970 has 77° (fan 65%, 2600rpm and much quieter as the MSI). Maybe I should install the Sapphire cooler on the MSI? :D

The cooler of the Sapphire is actually similarly to the MSI, so I think, that the airflow in my case should be ok.

thats quite high, i only got 3 140mm case fans 2 intake and 1 out, and they silent ones max 1000rpm , i need it to be silent

my msi runs on auto fan , 1100mhz gpu , 1400mhz memory, idle its 35c and load 75c

planning to install another fan on side panel see if can get it lower, i dont need to but will have a go
