I have lost patience with him also now. The rebuilding job will still be there for anyone managing the club and as been said elsewhere in the thread and most everywhere else around the net for the last 4 years, central midfield is the key area. Its not easy to find the correct player to build your play around and arguably it is the one area where Ferguson never successfully addressed. I think his only signing you could say that over delivered in that position was Roy Keane. The rest are a long catalogue of abject failure despite their pedigree

I give you - Veron, Kleberson, Liam Miller, Djemba*2, Alan Smith, Anderson to name some.

Anyway back to the point of the thread. I can't say I see anything that gives me encouragement about our future in the way Moyes is doing his job. Not winning the league - I am fine with that, Not making CL - I can live with that. Not competing for either is unacceptable though. Transition is something that has to be managed however what we are seeing is close to a capitulation. Champions to 7th in a season. He'd be sacked anywhere else

Moyes isn't the one who will decide his future if he continues like this. He's hardly going to say he's worried about his job.

Quotes:

The 50-year-old said: "My future has not changed one bit. I've got a great job. I know exactly the direction I want to go in. It's not been the season we had hoped but I've got ideas to put in place when the time is right.

"The most important thing right now is to get the Olympiakos game played. If we can get past them, it'd be a massive lift for us. We've got a lot of belief and we have to make it show by playing well in the game.

"The support inside Old Trafford has been phenomenal. I think the players will tell you that the first thing I mentioned was that we need to start giving something back now. We need to give them a night to be remembered.

"The biggest assurance is just that they let me get on with the job. We never discuss it - we just talk about the future, making plans for the years going forward. This club is not a club that works on a short-term vision. It works on a long-term vision.

"When you lose in the fashion we did to one of our biggest rivals, there's always a lot of disappointment. It was always going to be a big week with Liverpool and Olympiakos.

"As soon as it was over, we were focused on this game. It's the only thing that matters now.

"I see the players every day and the qualities they show me, they know they can play better. I've got belief in the players because I see what they can do and hope they show it."

On his relationship with former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, Moyes added: "I speak to him regularly and when he's at the games.

"He has been very supportive. He told me it would be a difficult job before I came in, but he and (vice chairman) Ed (Woodward) are very supportive."

I hope we lose to Olympiakos.
Then I want us to really get humiliated by Man City. A 7-0 scoreline would be perfect.

This will conclude a disastrous 10 day period of heavy losses.
THEN, we shall see how much the Glazers are backing Moyes.

I'm a stats man, and the stat which I posted above, comparing us with Fulham (bottom of the table), is what shocked me into realising just how bad Moyes is. This guy cannot be allowed to continue into next season.

These weren't the greatest buys. I will give you that.
But while the above players played for Man Utd, Man Utd were winning. Thats the difference. If you win, any mistakes made by managers/players are overlooked.

And remember, Moyes has already spent approximately £65M. That's a lot of money, even in today's market. We have an expensive squad - no doubt about it - and we cant beat Fulham at home.

Have you ever heard of the phrase "1 step backwards, 2 steps forward"?

LOL. That's what I'm hoping for.

Heavy losses to Liverpool, Olympiakos, Man City (1 step back).
Moyes gets replaced in the Summer (2 steps forward).

Under Moyes are doing:
1 step back.
1 step back.
1 step back.

How many steps back are we going to take?

When will the first Moyes forward step happen?

I thought it was the signing of Mata, but it's just not.

There are literally hundreds of players in the world that would improve their squad, yet nothing is done.

Huh? You can sign people during the season? Poison chalice signing players really, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

He's completely right, a lot of Liverpool fans were thinking the same way under hodgson, that Gerrard missed pen against Blackburn was glorious. They're both or was for Roy completely out of their depth and deflected blame to everyone else, albeit Moyes not so much, I seriously hope they go on a nice run

It was completely different with Roy though i think, he did ok/decent with Fulham for only a few seasons. Moyes has performed over 10 years with a side that was hovering around relegation for years and years..

Automatically that gives far more breathing space..

Edit, the thing is, i know i'm defending the guy a lot, i'm not even a United fan, but it's about fairness. I don't know how it's going to end up, they could keep going backwards, and in 3 years time, sack him. The hilarious thing will be everyone on this forum will be saying "ooo i told you so" like they are some holy football future predictors or something. If we went off some of the people on this forum and the silly media, you'd have managers not even being given a chance to prove themselves, it'll ruin the game. Already is actually. I want to manage when i'm older and i can say this for loads of lads i know, we're becoming disillusioned with the game. People aren't given a chance. Football isn't even about winning really..

Actually he probably hasnt spent anywhere near that amount as its highly unlikely any of MF's add-on's are anywhere near being paid (a few Everton fans have said Utd only paid £15m upfront). Its easier to see how we would have had to pay near the full £37m for Mata in Jan, outright.

Even so £65m these days isnt exactly that much when you consider Utd will get over £20m from the EPL from finishing where they are now (before considering all the income Utd are raking in currently).

Also a lot of the top earners will be leaving in May/June anyway (along with three defenders, I wouldnt be surprised to see RvP, two out of Young, Nani and Valencia all leave/ be sold too).

Well, he's at least consistent.

This time last season, David Moyes' Everton had 48 points from 29 games, having scored 46 goals & conceded 35. This season, David Moyes' Manchester United side have 48pts from 29 games, having scored 46 goals and conceded 34.

It's avtually quite put me off football altogether. I rarely watch motd now or even italian games as it just upsets me .

Does that mean that you wont be commentating on any future Utd matches??, if so i think the whole forum will breathe a huge sigh of relief:p

In one of the links someone put up about Moyes the line that stuck out was

Statistical analysis is an important part of the game. After getting Nate Silver on the case, and giving him unlimited financial resources, he has drawn an exciting conclusion: David Moyes is clearly an absolute expert at taking any club on any budget, and finishing seventh.

I thought it was accurate and hilarious :p
