would be good business for athletico if they can win the league and then sell costa at a massive profit, then just relax into third place again next season while madrid and barca mount up massive debts to try and take the title again.
how long is barcas transfer ban now?

Ban has been put on hold pending an appeal. Dont think they will enforce it, similar to the ban that Chelsea got a few yrs which was then overturned.

They're totally different situations are they not? So it's not really comparable to the Chelsea situation?

They are different, but I think the outcomes will be the same, or at the most Barca will end up paying a large fine (which they can afford) and getting a slap on the wrist.

Yep, think it was nailed on for most of the season that Costa was going to end up at Chelsea. If the fee is true then Chelsea really got a good deal for him but i reckon there is more to it ie Torres will probably go the other way despite Mourinho saying he has a future at Chelsea.
.

Atletico keeping Chelsea's loan gk for another season?

Probably has something to do with it

You're losing probably 3 senior players, leaders in the dressing room and training pitch. Hummels is experienced and good but Rafael, Shaw, Jones aren't going to replace that experience or leadership in defence any time soon.

But I still fail to see what Kroos has to do with it, Guardiola tried to play him in the Javi Martinez/Swine role.... and Bayern looked the worst I've seen them in 4 years. He's an attacking central midfielder who isn't particularly good. He's not going to help the defence at all.

Shaw is going to be better than Evra defensively - no question at all about that.

Of course Kroos will help the defence, because he is 1) less likely to give the ball away & 2) a lot more likely to be able to get it back and play it offensively both meaning that the opposition have less time on the ball.

Also Pep has arguably ruined how good BM where last year, has a lot more to do with PG than how good (or bad) Kroos is in any particular role.

Yep there is also that as well. Unless Chelsea are selling Luiz to Barca to finance the Costa deal.

True

Plenty of rumours about this, but just not sure why they would go in this direction at all.

He may (or may not lol) be a good player, but just cant see why Barca - even in the state they are currently - would go after this level of player.

He's an attack minded, ball playing centre back. In many ways he fits into Barca's philosophy perfectly. It's just a shame (for Barca) that he's nowhere near as good defensively as they need him to be.

Luiz for Barcelona is the perfect fit. They don't need an excellent ball winning defender like a Terry or Vidic they need someone who's good on the ball and very quick to fit their highline.

Luiz is perfect for Barca. As Pigeon touches on, they don't need somebody that defends on the edge of the 18 yard box, organises things and heads crosses away. They need somebody that's good on the ball, can defend counter attacks and one on one situations.

Terry, for example, might be considered 10x better than Luiz for Chelsea but put him in the Barca side and he'll be found out big time.
