It's just a shame (for Barca) that he's nowhere near as good defensively as they need him to be.

Nail.On.The.Head

I can understand a lot of teams going for attacking full backs who need more experience at defending, but a centre- back who cant defend fora team who can go out amd get the best makes no sense at all

hopefully woodward can get these done and I think we would be in a good place

in

Shaw or Coentrao
Hummels or Garay or Mangala
Kroos or Strooman or Carvalho
Reus or Di Maria(not likely after this season) or Griezmann

out

Young
Cleverly
Nani

Cavani I wouldn't want for what he costs, Reus is staying another year at Dortmund, Mangala is City bound, Robben is a ****, Muller won't leave.

Kroos, Fabregas, Shaw, Carvalho, Hummels I'll take :)

Not sure what United would want Cavani for, given that they have Rooney and Van Persie already... He's not the kind of player you buy as a reserve, and he hasn't performed amazingly well playing out wide for PSG.

Don't get me wrong, he'd be a valuable addition to any team, but I'd imagine that the ~£60m could be better spent elsewhere.

Arsenal would be a better destination for him if he wanted to head to the Premier League.

I'd be very surprised if we got Cavani, we've got two extremely good strikers as it is.

Better to spend that £60m on midfielders or defenders.

Excuse my brain fart. :D:o Didn't see his name in there.

You must have snuck in there with a sneaky ninja edit. ;)

A Southampton colleague of mine agrees that if Spurs get Pochettino, then Shaw, Lallana and any other Southampton player attracting transfer attention would use the fact that the manager has left to ask for a transfer should a club come in for them.

Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ransfer-news-and-rumours-for-summer-2014.html

Budget: £150-200m

On the wanted list: Toni Kroos, Marco Reus, Luke Shaw, Edinson Cavani, Cesc Fabregas, Eliaquim Mangala, William Carvalho, Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels

Crikey. We'll take the lot. :D

One of: Kroos, Reus, Cavani, Robben, Muller, Hummels to United? Yeah...ok.

And Kevin Strootman?

Why would they go to a non-Champions league team? I can't see Man U bouncing back to top 4 easily next year either.

Money. Huge club. Top manager.

Hard to say what'll happen really, these things are difficult to call. I certainly expect top 4 at the minimum.

I don't think the stature of the club will interest many of them. Money, yes, but most of those could get that from any top team if they chose to move. The manager too. Man Utd are going to have to offer stratospheric wages to attract some of the players they're reportedly interested in, or at least some very open escape clauses. I suspect many of those targets will wait until late in the window to see what other players Man Utd secure before agreeing to move... I expect it will be a very frustrating summer for Woodward.

Of course, players like Shaw, who perhaps wouldn't slot straight into many top clubs at the moment, will be easier to attract, but it would be interesting if a Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal came in for him, the latter 2 where he'd be a guaranteed starter and could offer Champions League football immediately (well, probably in Arsenal's case, assuming they qualify).

Not sure why anyone would pay £ 30m or there abouts on Strootman who hasnt played since Jan due to injury and only moved to Roma last summer ( I said last summer Utd should have got him, but right now wouldnt touch him with a barge pole, even if he wasnt reluctant to
leave Italy as per reports)

Based on what? So far you have no manager and made no signings.

Based on the fact that I am more often right than wrong with my football predictions.

They will employ a competent manager this time round, make some decent signings and go all out in all competitions.

Like it or not, they have the spending power to overcome the lack of CL this year when recruiting.

You have to feel for Southampton, they are going to get picked dry this summer.

Having completed the season so well has been both a blessing and a curse for Southampton in a way. They have always been a selling club so finishing 8th was never likely to result in 'here is another £50m Mauricio, get us into Europe', instead most of the architects of that success will simply use it as a platform to strike the best deals they can before Southampton drop back down the table again.

It would be nice to think players like Lallana who have been with the team from league 1 would stick around but I don't think he's of the same mindset as a LeTissier and he'll look for the best he can get. He will want to be careful of moving somewhere too big though and ending up a squad player rather than the key player in the team.

I think Pochettino will be going soon and if so, with rumours of people like Malky Mackay around as replacements, I wouldn't blame anyone for leaving, as without a damn good manager, we'll be going nowhere but rapidly back down the table.
