Who here owns a Subaru?

£1500 towards what?

I can recommend a decent bodyshop in Hampshire, if you're in this area.

I'm running about 380bhp on standard internals mate, the 2.5 has some failure issues so its considered advisable to put in stronger pistons, headgaskets etc. if not I risk a £3-4K complete rebuild.

Thats why the 2.0 blobs are sought after :D

The bug and blob have the 2.0, not forged but good for big power and reliability.

2.5 is good for lots of torque but is also good at blowing up if left unattended :D

I've heard Subaru have strengthened the internals on the new STI model, if thats not an admission of guilt then...

Upper reliable limit for the 2.0 STI engine of the bugeyes and blobeyes is usually reckoned to be about 450bhp. That's not really "big" power; more sort of "medium". 500+ is big.

500+ is more like crazy power :p

No, "crazy power" is over 650bhp. The highest I have heard of is 850bhp, but I vaguely remember a 950bhp motor in Oz. FWIW, Zen Performance's old racing Impreza (650+ bhp) used a bog-standard blob-eye 6-speed gearbox - that bit is pretty tough. Nothing else was standard though...

Made a decision tonight: it was a toss up of saving little by little to go forged on the 2.5 or go outright with a little more debt. I've picked the latter for peace of mind.

Not only will I have confidence in making full use of the car's potential but also make it more saleable when I do come to sell.

...it's only money... :(

So my bonnet catch decided to stop working the other day. Had a play with it and cleaned all the road rubbish/gunk that had got in it and it still wont work... :( At the same time I decided to get myself a nice new K&N panel filter, oil, oil filter and magnetic sump plug to treat it to a mini service. :) Hopefully getting all that done this week. Before its MOT in March i'd also like to get the transmission/diff oils changed too but i'll wait to get this out the way first.

I'm contemplating having it detailed/dents removed/wheels refurbed and new suspension all round soon as well... (There goes the me leaving it standard comment I made earlier in the thread! Haha!:o ) All these things and only so much money to do them.

Any Legacy owners on here? (I can't recall ever seeing anyone mention having one)

Currently mulling over picking up a spec B wagon but have a fairly limited exposure to them.

Wouldn't be spending much, circa £3-4k so it would be a car without the SI drive, which seems to be the only significant change to the facelift model - something I can definitely live without.

I think the interior is fine, they handle well for the size, remember them being fairly refined, riding reasonably enough and they're reasonably kitted out too which is a big plus over the impreza (couldn't live without cruise for example). The space on offer would be great too.

Mpg not a consideration, has to be a Spec B otherwise I'll be very bored very quickly

The only main issues i'm aware of with them are the expensive inverted shocks and potentially expensive Y joint repairs - neither of which bother me really.

So...have I missed anything? Will have a look on the legacy forums too.

Yep spec b wagon here

A super car for the money you spend. Very solid and the engine is so smooth yet powerful. 1st and 2nd gear a bit meh but 3rd and 4th gear are great torquey gears.
I have had mine for over a year and the issues that are on a car of 10 years.

Calipers need a refurb and new pistons
Clutches go under 80k
Exhaust is rubbish as standard
suspension bushes can be worn ARB bushes and drop links will probably need replacing.
The cd changer breaks and will need and expensive replacement or an add-on.
Window switches can be a bit dodgy.
Headlamps fade a bit.
Wheels will probably need a refurb.

Get that done it drives like new. And get the pre 06 otherwise you are getting raped £500+ a year in tax.

If I got rid of this one I'd get another.

Thanks, all sounds like standard fare that I'll be able to easily sort myself if need be. Do you have nav in your car? If so how old does it look and does it integrate any other functions? (I.e is it worth bothering about)

Nav is standard. Does the job fits well with the car. I use it got me through europe but its not a TomTom. Worth replacing? Not really.

Ah OK never realised all the cars had it, doesn't need to be all singing and dancing. Easy to add some sort of integrsted bluetooth interface or is it a case of adding a parrot or the likes?

Another slightly daft question, does it have an integrated dog guard?
