FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

Caller on talksport is bang on. Hendo and Gerrard were too deep vs Italy...Woy did it again against Uruguay. Hodgson should be replaced after this.

Gerrard needed to be deep, deeper even at times but working more intensively with other forward players a lot of the time he was just feeding into a non-functional, easy to predict, system that was going nowhere repeatedly instead of creating anything positive himself.

I don't really blame Gerrard I think he was badly utilised, whether someone else could have done better in the position I don't really know.

Rooney for all his faults puts the other team off balance but the flaw is then trying to play through him, use him for that and play through other players and we would have done far far better IMO.

Me personally, i would say Sterling.

Rooney is dog ****, always been over-hyped. Mind you i am someone who says Van Persie is **** when deep down i know i am talking porkies :p (though i am not with rooney, he really is just ****)

1 Goal, 1 set up and hit the post suggests his contribution was a little better than some would have us believe. It is a results business after all

Thomas Müller along with the majority of the German national side are among some of my favourite footballers to watch tbh.

They were absolutely imperious in the opening game. So excited to see them play again.

<3 Suarez

Not really sure why Gerrard is getting so much stick, he misjudged a header that went to an unmarked player. It's hardly 'bottling' it or passing it to Suarez on purpose :o

We were a mess in defence and a mess in attack but you can't blame any one player because everyone sucked tonight.

As for Hodgson, the FA publically stated he would be in charge of England until 2016 back in May so we're stuck with him.

Agreed. All of the best teams start from a solid defense. England was as water tight as the Titanics front end tonight.

Not having a go at Henderson but a better option would have been to at least start with someone like Lampard who can retain possession of the ball. Then bring Henderson or Milner to run the opposition down

Rooney played well, I hate Rooney but he had a good game. Good movement, made chances and have a **** unlike moSt.

Criticising him after tonight is bandwagoning.

We'll never have a capable side till they sort it out at grass roots level, these days they'd rather build new housing estates on football fields though.

It is kind of ironic that in the end he did more for England than almost anyone else even if most of it was almost accidental. To his credit through he did keep his composure and tap that goal in having fluffed a lot of basic play previously.

Frankly we need to accept that we don't have enough talent in our first 11 let alone the squad.

Fine on another day we may have progressed to the last 16 but past that or the quarters we simply don't have the players capable of beating the top teams (unless we fluke it).

Anyway I'm hoping from now on we play our younger players, no harm in getting them bedded in for euro 2016.

Who is the right man?

England's problem is much deeper than the wrong manager or not playing that flavour of the month youngster that everyone thinks would set the stage alight.

No idea. I don't think anyone can come in and change this team around.

I know, it doesn't just come down to the manager. The whole system and youth development is ****ed in this country. Until that is sorted nothing will change.
