Mk2, there is no Mk3 as yet.
Well with the help of a chap from the range we took the Airsporter apart this evening and to be honest it was going very well and everything is surprisingly well lubed with the factory grease still and minimal wear until we got to the piston head.
The leather piston ring was mashed to pieces and embedded within the leather were in total 4 metal .22 darts from something like a Gat with plastic rears mashed into the leather. it would seem my braincell devoid cousin when he had his hands on this has tried feeding darts into it and has somehow managed to get them to go backwards into the piston head which had then forced them and compressed them into the leather. Luckily there is no damage to the metal part of the head or the piston casing, but needless to say i've already sent the warning via my father than my cousin is under no circumstances to come anywhere near me unless he wants to lose a few teeth,
The Airsporter was never his to mess about with and on top of him knackering the bluing we then find this I'm not a happy camper.
Aside from that all it appears to need is a new spring as the current one is buckled (replacing for a comparable spring not upscaling) a new leather piston washer and an overall clean, re-greasing, stock tidying up and re bluing and all is good. So not as bad as thought.
Gave part of the stock a 5 minute work over with Meths and 0000 wire wool to see how it would come up and you can see it below.

Need to find a plug for this too, anyone know where i can find one as TWChambers don't have them, I also need a replacement front site as this ones a bit manky and a foresight hood too, again out of stock at Chambers

i dont condone the losing teeth comment mate were better people than that on these boards here. And especially if you like shooting its the worst image you could portray coming across as a thug! its hard enough as it is to get the majority to accept the sport without comments like that. very bad form

I was a fan of the original wood stock but it looked tatty and all the metal had gone tatty with it. Just left my mate to do what he wanted with it.

Wow! That's going to look great once finished. You could get the metal blued, not sure of the cost but could be worth it if it has sentimental value. Or have a go at bluing it yourself if you have the time and patience.
What rifle is it?
Barrel/piston housing is being sent to a chap in Manchester to be hot blued for £65. From what i read hes the godfather of Bluing air rifles for about 20 years. The trigger block will need to be painted as its Aluminum so wont take the bluing
Think I know the guy you mean. Seems a shame to have a painted part next to the beautifully blued action. I wonder what it would look like with the trigger block simply polished up?
If you do go the paint route then i'd use an etch primer. I tried painting my alu volumetric silencer after someone on the airgun BBs assured me that you dont need an etch primer and as I suspected would happen the paint just flaked off. Stripped it all back again and did it again with a few coats of black self etching primer as a base and it is still looking good today.
I remember a review of the Airstar in one of the magazines.
I think they are rare because they flopped! Still a nice piece of engineering but I think it was solving a problem that didn't really exist.

As to Scopes. A bog standard Hawke sport HD 3-9x40 is a good starter. You would have to change the parallax on it to a more suitable range, but that's just unscrewing 2 things.
For a little more you can get a AO version if you want.
Any idea what it is first, any markings or numbers near the trigger? Break barrel or underlever? Dont really want to tell you to attack it if its something valuable that deserves nice restoration
