Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Just got myself an MSI GTX 980 Gaming card and everything seems good. Its not as loud as I was expecting but temperature wise what should I be expecting?

It reached 72'C while playing Assassins Creed and around 66-68'C while playing CS:GO

I haven't overclocked it as never done that to a GFX card nor do I really know how to. Do I need to OC a card or are the above temperatures about the limit anyway?

if you're happy then why bother? 72 is ok, tbh i'd expect it to be slightly lower than that (but then i do have a G1). are you running with vsync on?

Received my Galax GTX 980 SOC today. Very pleased with it really quiet. Installed it in my PC but not had chance to stretch its legs yet. No Haribo :(

Just installed my new ocuk gtx 980's reference(asic 76.7 and 73.3)and in SLI they are able to boost to 1515 MHz with no change to voltage. Running at +240 on core and +300 on memory. Very happy boy and the cards run at 65c in Far cry 4 @ 100fps with a slightly modified fan profile. I recommend these cards for SLI. Well done OCUK. 2X Haribo :)

The default fan profile tends to be a bit low (to fit with the stock speeds and come up with optimum noise/heat balance). Use Afterburner to create a new, steeper fan profile if you want more cooling headroom for OC'ing. You can use Afterburner to play with OC'ing too. Read up on GPU OC'ing guides. Don't install Rivatuner which comes with Afterburner.

75-80C max should be your aim, imo.

Your case will play a part in temps too. Very simple test is to remove the side panel and see the temp difference when playing those games. I have seen up to 30C differences with side panel off, depending on the case.

I'm not sure why people bother if they're not going to update it. I know life duties obviously beckon but it's not hard to come in with a mention once in a while to say so

+1

If people start these threads they should update them regularly. It was only yesterday I updated the 290x owners thread with the latest reviews.

I have seen a lot of important 980 reviews recently that are not getting linked or mentioned here.

We may of had our disagreements recently but I appreciate all the threads you have to stay on top of here, merry Christmas and a big thanks for that from me, maybe a hug too.
