Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Hi all.... Hoping to replace my GTX670 with a 980 off santa for xmas. I am holding off ordering as long as poss to see if there are any holiday deals.

But for now, the inno3D one for £399 does seem to offer great bang for buck, compared to other cards. Is there a reason for its lower price?

(I have a rift DK2 and am hoping my card will be good for CV1 as well - no SLI for me sadly - so I want one i can oc the balls off :) )

just hoping for any thoughts off current inno3d 980 X3 ultra owners (its cheaper than their stock card!).

thanks

i think it's just on special. afaik it's basically a reference pcb with a custom cooler on it. reference cards tend to be more expensive because apparently the reference cooler is more expensive than many custom coolers so the cost to the manufacturers is higher.

I just got that inno3d x3 and I am very impressed with it. With just upping the power limit to 115% it will boost to 1569 on the core on stock volts.

what sort of temps are guys with Reference coolers getting?

I'm having to use Afterburner to increase fan speed to stop throttling at 80 degrees as the stock fan profile never sees fan speed go above 50%

60-70% fan speed seems to keep me under 80 degrees but its quite loud. This is running taxing games like Shadows of mordor or Dragon age inquisition.

Is this typical or do i have an abnormal one?

You wont regret it! best card I have ever owned (although it is the most expensive I've ever bought too lol)

If you increase the power limit, the temp limit should increase to 91C. For most things mine run at 80C odd and 50% fan speed, but in AC unity temps seem to go up to high 80s with a 75% fan speed. It does get quite loud, but looking at performance benchmarks the actual sound produced is something like 45dB

It was a waste of time overclocking the cards as the CPU was bottlenecking them really bad @1080p.

Although I'm happy with my current card. I am really tempted to pick one of these MSI Gaming GTX 980's. That PCB is ready to go for an AIO. Imagine temps / headroom would be awesome.

Ha, I know ! It's an addiction/illness I'm sure :D

Because the VRM / Memory cooling is pre fitted on the MSI Gaming card it will be much better than sticking on small heatsinks. In the benchmarks this card kicks ass !!

Must resist..
Yeah I suffer from it myself mate. Though maybe not as bad as you :p

You could end up getting a naff clocker and then you would be kicking yourself. I wouldn't if I was you.

Lol, one thing that does annoy me about my 290X 8GB is the multi screen power consumption and temps, just sat at desktop with X2 screens it's about 45c !!

With one screen it's 35c.

980 uses less power with x2 screens at desktop than the 290X with 1 !!

The MSI Gaming is up there with the Gigabyte G1, but has the perfect PCB for AIO cooling.. If there was an 8GB version I would have already bought it :p
