AKG K7XX - Massdrop

I thought the same, doesn't state anything about whether they are used for any length of time (but they have only been out since before Xmas in the UK thanx to shopping & import tax)... I doubt its anything bad & PayPal always had my back in disputes !
Aren't some of the Photos his (3rd one) ? It does seem from his feed back as a seller he like his PC head wear & other Tech stuff... I'd bite but inline for the K712.

Got a pair sorted and should have them next week. I'm expecting Q701 with K712 pads which is basically the newer Annie. Less warm than the original Annie but more spacious sounding but still slightly warm.

Original Annie was smooth, mids really close to your ear with good bass impact and a smooth slightly rolled off treble. Soundstage of the old Annie was smaller, in-between the HD650 and K712. I would prefer the original Annie sound but can't see AKG bringing those pads back unless they get a load of demand.

Got my K7XX's. I like them better than the K712 right off the bat. Better more textured mid range and a smoother treble. None of that dryness the K712,K701,K702 suffered from. right away I'm familiar with the sound. It's in Annie territory which is absolutely fantastic, I'm over the moon about that as they didn't cost me an arm and a leg. Bass is extended and around neutral, it's present, in line and great. Vocals sound natural and not as pushed back as the other AKG's, quite upfront but not too personal. Soundstage is smaller than the K712.

It's a warm headphone but not overly so, I would say around the HD600 in warmth but not as warm as the HD650. HD650 has a smaller soundstage, slightly more intimate in the vocals. I like the K7XX better as it wins in more areas. Bargain for those who got them for cheap, seriously these will compete with anything. They compete well with my HE400i. Not tried them for gaming yet to get a better impression of it's image.

Listening will go on for a while and I'll write a more detailed review on them. Reason for the impressions so early is because I'm so used to all the K7 series.

Edit

After more test I can confirm this headphone is the newer Annie. I don't have the K712 with me at hand but sonically I know their sound so well and they still have the differences I mentioned. The K7XX ear pads I have seem to be the K712 ones after actually taking time to look at them.

While gaming using the Mixamp pro > Vali > Xbone/PS4 the soundstage is a more closed one. It's deep but doesn't have the air and space of the K501, K701, Q701 and K712 . The K7XX sounds thick just like the Annie. For gaming it's inbetween the K601 and K712 in terms of staging which is still top notch. Don't expect it to be the K701 because it's warmer and lusher sounding.

Positional Accuracy is on par with the other AKG's. The mid peak like the Q701 only shows it's self when the recording is like that. Mellow music sounds mellow while aggressive music will show the minor peak. Again this is minor, it's not K712 bad and most people won't even notice it but I am sensitive to that region and trust me, it isn't bad unless you are worse than me! The old Annie had it which is this headphone.

the early buyers were ok and they were shipped by Massdrop - it was after that that AKG changed the rules to make it US only.

The only way round it (from what I've read on the MD discussion) is to get a 3rd party courier to collect from MD & then ship out to you ! Sound's like a lot if hassle but I guess if you really wanted them you'd jump at it...

I was tempted, but to be honest with the issues on the discussion thread I don't think these are worth the hassle. Seems like lots of quality control problems that shouldn't be there for a headphones with an MSRP of $650.

Still waiting for mine to be sent from Massdrop to the postal forwarding company...

Second batch, first time round.

One of the members on Head-Fi has offered to act as a forwarding service for the Massdrop K7XX from overseas. He will either send the box on to you, factory sealed or check the headphones for rattles or any other imperfections and also act as an intermediary to get them changed if they do prove to be faulty.

You can either pay him the cost of the headphones plus international postage or just pay him the postage and he'll give you his address to use when ordering.

Thanks for the heads up.

For those that have these already did you get hit with a customs charge? Been in touch with the guy in the USA who is doing the forwarding service and postage will be $26 which isn't too bad but I know from the Q701 massdrop that some stung stung by customs.

Shouldn't be a problem if he sends it as a gift at low value.
