***The Official Manly Shaving Thread***

Looks cool, I have no idea of the quality, but might be fun to give them a proper touch up. Especially if the straight is a decent quality.

I researched the straight a bit, it's from a Sheffield steel house founded in 1911. Seems reasonably well thought of, the chips concern me a bit but even as a vanity piece it could be cool.

I've never been overly handy but my girlfriend has pretty much all the tools I would need (amateur jeweller) so I'm thinking I may give restoration a shot. will be a learning curve though!

Is Mitchell's scented?

Slightly, but it's pretty mild.

My parents are going to Italy soon. Other than asking them to pick me up some tubs of Prorasso, anyone have any suggestions if there is anything fairly easily available there that I should ask them to keep an eye out for, for me? Are Italian brushes good/better value/worth looking for? Currently just got a £17 badger one.

I took delivery of some Geo F Trumper extract of lime shaving cream yesterday. It was my treat to myself after payday. I've got to say I was a little bit disappointed, I was hoping for a stronger scent. It gave a good shave but not noticeably different to the ToBS stuff I'm using already.

I also received some of the Gentleman's Tonic (matron) shave cream which I managed to nab off ebay for a ridiculous £4. I rate their moisturiser very highly so am intrigued by this, anyone tried it?

In other news my face seems to have adapted to DE shaving, managed two days in a row with a feather this week which would have hammered my skin even with a fusion a few months back. I think daily shaving is probably now an option.

I've started trying to restore the straight razor I found. I'll post up some pics once I'm further along, (and the cuts on my thumbs have healed enough to allow me to operate a camera).

I thought I'd give Poraso a whirl :D

A common complaint but you can build on the the scent by layering the skin food and scent on top. It won't last very long though.

I often swap out my more expensive stuff for my Proraso items because they are just very, very good.

I've read a lot of great thinks about their products in this thread, so thought I'd give them a try. I think I've probably got enough cream to keep me going for a year now :D

I just realised the other day it's called Proraso, not Poraso. Either you made a typo or you're just about to have your mind blown too :D

Going to have my first DE shave tonight, order arrived today.

Got a Merkur 33C, a best badger brush http://www.traditionalshaving.co.uk...pany-Ivory-Best-Badger-Shaving-Brush-300.html and some Astra platinums. Bought a palmolive shave stick for 50p, hoping that works out ok! Has anyone else tried it?

For 50p it's quite good, it's ok to rub on your face but I saw somewhere that someone had bought a couple and squashed them into a plastic tub so they could use the brush to load onto rather than rub the stick on you face

I'm quite keen to try the face lather though, don't have much shelf room for a bowl and from what I gather more time brushing the face = more raised bristles. Seems like a win-win to me?

Got my shaving shack order today with some new blades to try, 2x pack of astra superior platinum and 3 packs of my trusty Israeli made as I only have 5 feather blades left. I really disliked feathers when I first started shaving with a DE but having ran out of Israelis and with 3 packs of feather sitting I just started using them without a thought. Funny thing is now looking at my order in front of me I realised just how good my shaves have been for the last few months, I asked my self why the heck I didn't order some more feathers :/

EDIT++

Also having ordered new blades I thought it best to order a styptic pencil..... in case. I did not expect it to be so hard, do I wet it if I need to use it ?

Yep, just wet the end and then apply to cut. You will know about it ;)

George,

have you tried the peppermint TOBs cream yet? How was it? Tempted myself but I can't decide between that, Grapefruit or Lemon & Lime.

Yes mate, I've used it all week. It is very nice. There's a real mint tingle and the smell is lovely, but not overpowering. It lathers beautifully, as you'd expect from any TOBS creme.

Give it a whirl!

I am looking forward to trying the eucalyptus and menthol Proraso tomorrow :D

I love Sandalwood.

I'm also on the hunt for a vintage Gillette razor, probably an adjustable fatboy. They demand silly money on ebay though.
