Easy enough to run afterburner and check your vram usage in the game.

Had the same problem with GTA and it was due to it being on an SSD. As soon as I moved it to my HD it was fine

Which 970 should I go for? I have about £280ish to spend on one. I would like to have a reasonably quiet cooler but with overclocking potential.

970 G1 always gets my vote.

Otherwise Strix or MSI are good calls.

What are the fans like? I read they get loud under load.

I dont find they do. Most reviews say they are quiet. I cant hear them anyway as I have a Noctua which is quite loud anyway.

They are not loud tho in any way.

I must have been thinking about a different 970 as I've just had a look at a few reviews and they do say it's quiet. G1 it is then

Check out that video someone posted here with multiple 970s running at idle and under load.

The MSI gaming was quieter than the G1 under load and would definitely sway me from buying the G1 over the MSI.

I finally bit the bullet and upgraded my HiS HD 7950 Boost to a KFA2 GTX 970 OC Silent "Infin8 Black Edition" (just before the price went back up). I was very happy with the 7950, it gave me two and a half years of faultless service but this 970 is much faster, a fair bit quieter, runs a lot cooler and is considerably smaller than the HiS. I've been running around in Witcher 3 for a few hours to give it a workout and with HairWorks disabled (didn't think it added much to the game) I'm getting a constant 60f/s (v/sync on as my TV only goes to 60Hz) @1920 x 1080.

Is 1442 stock boost clock a reasonable speed for a 970? I'm just wondering if it's even worth bothering trying to overclock it.

Yea thats really good,the max Boost clock possible out of the box is 1455mhz

Still might have another 100mhz to squeeze out the core,would give it a bash

I have the KFA Infin8 970 and must say it's a cracking card at 1080p. Currently playing Witcher3 at the GeForce experience settings and it runs like hot butter off a knife

^ 970 Reference here but same results. It dropped to 56fps at one point. I was okay with this though.

Not OC'd yet either.

It was the 64 bit client, using the 32 bit one works fine ._.

What are the noise levels like? Any better than the G1 or MSI Gaming? Sound is a major concern for me and as far as I know, the MSI is one of the quietest 970s.
