NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

I'll let you know shortly, just running some 1440p tests on my 970sli then fitting my 980ti and re-running them.

Thank you.

If it helps I'm not that interested in the likes of Firestrike or Heaven benchmark results. More interested in fps and the overall gaming experience whilst actually playing games.

Since I got my G1, last October, I've played Tombraider, Rage, Alien Isolation, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3 & 4, Fallout 3, New Vegas, GTA V, Dying Light, Metro 2033.

I've got Sniper Elite 3,Metro Last Light, Witcher 3 and Middle Earth...Mordor on my HDD ready to play as well. :D

PS
Fences to creosote and lots of Guinness to sup over the weekend. So I may be absent for a couple of days. Will defo be back on Monday, that's so long as I don't get the two liquids mixed up!!!!

I did full screen and windowed on Witcher 3 as I usually have another monitor showing SKY GO or something, and it needs to be windowed for it to work (not always) Notice a big difference in FPS.

Ignoring all other results, Witcher wasn't great to play in SLI when in windowed mode, it had a very noticeable stutter when under 60-70 fps but it was the smoothest of all when in full screen mode.

I'm not sure what to make of my card: KFA2 GeForce GTX 970 OC Silent "Infin8 Black Edition".

The maximum core clock I see with afterburner is 1380mhz. I think from what I read that's on the low end considering the factory OC but then I don't understand boost, maybe it's normal.

same card without oc mine is 'only' 1367mhz default :p

I was meant to be buying the white GTX 970 HOF for my brother this week (he has an all white setup) but I can't see it on the site any more. Did it get discontinued?

Only other white model is the 980Ti at £575 :(

Just wondered if anyone still thinks a Gtx 970 is worth the punt? I was looking at the 980/Ti but I don't think I can afford one now. The prices seem pretty static and reasonable on the 970 whereas the 980/ti seem to have risen in price over the last few months. Not sure I can justify saving up and spending more on something which was previously cheaper - as I just don't believe the 980/ti is worth that much.

They never weren't worth buying and still very good cards to this day, hence why they still fly out.

At 1080p it's a no brainer. I got the OCUK Reference model that came with the free metal gear game. That game is near £50 on STEAM so you're only looking at £250 for the card if you planned to play MGS.

At my res (1080) I think I'm good to go for at least 2 years with mine. :)

AMD have some cracking options under £300 as well. It was only the lack of analog out on their models which deterred me away as I'm using a CRT.

Nothing wrong with a 970, the one I had with a small overclock ran all my games at 1080 on pretty much highest settings at smooth frame rates. Never a problem with VRAM either.

Was certainly a better experience than my R9 290 in comparison.

I'm weighing it up at the moment. There's a few games I would like better fps in and to up the graphical settings in slightly, but the 3.5gb vram could be a problem next year with newer titles (which is what's holding me off). I'd love to go for the 980 but I can't justify the price of it over the gtx 970. Perhaps I could use the 970 as a stop-gap purchase? Hmm.

I went from a 290 to a 970 and have no regrets. Side-step some might say but more suited to my needs at 1080p. Only real game I've had issues with is Batman Arkham Knight but that's more to do the the game than the card itself. Likes of Mad Max and Witcher 3 I can play no problem.

Yes overclock! The KFA2 I linked will boost well over 1300MHz so it's not something you need to worry about anyhow.

The Gigabyte should be quiet yes, although any card you'll hear whilst under load.

Is ocing the KFA2 even show much or feel a difference on games? not worth ocing apart from the fact that you can? any guides to do so if not that difficult haha
