Joanna Rowsell is getting married this Saturday and is having the evening event at a wedding venue near to me. Laura Trott is going... I'm tempted to cycle up there and just ride around the car park until she appears.

Dropping my bike off at the LBS at lunch time. Unless I spend substantial amounts of time fixing up my turbo bike to be ridable it's bye-bye cycling for most of this week. Waa :/

that's why I have a spare bike! :D

that is just wrong

I hope there will be some pics like last time! I want to see my position side-on.

I ended up 39th overall behind Tom H (womble) who beat my time by 2s despite being on a road bike.:o

Yeah, I only saw photographers at Robin Hood and Roehampton gate I think. Last time they had a guy who was doing the side on ones up Sawyers.

On my phone, but if I wasn't I'd be posting my picture of me and her in majorca! :-P

Went out on Saturday to conquer a local(ish) CAT4 called Watery Lane (almost 1 mile @ 7% avg). I rode a 25 mile loop with constant headwinds on the way out. My legs were feeling a bit crappy (long ride thursday) so took it fairly easy, still far too many stops for my liking (food & texts mostly)! Only 1 stop due to dying on a climb I totally underestimated. First time I've blown up/semi-bonked for a while - I didn't totally bonk as I knew I had a harder climb to come...

I managed the main climb itself, although had to stop twice (near the start) to allow 2 cars past and to give way to oncoming (it's single track but road surface is great). Paced myself up it although the time spent climbing really did get to me, I had to sit and grind it out in my 32 for some (but I see that was where it reaches 12-14%). Makes me thing I need more practice on prolonged slow cadence efforts - I'm overdue some hill reps! Felt loads better on the ride back towards home than I had on the way out. :D

Met this guy part-lost on the ride back, not sure I was much use as he was trying to avoid Hereford and all of my rides are in-out of it! Nice guy, he's from south Wales and was doing a 120 mile ride along the 'Golden Valley' from Swansea to Ledbury. Insane route really but I imagine the scenery is incredible and some of the best around (lots of old towns hidden away with old monasteries and castles).

Ride to work this morning was largely uneventful, I'd refitted my mudguards (They've been off for 3 weeks!) and at one point the front 'bit' (in front of head tube) flew off and I heard it crunch under lorry wheels behind me... :(

Not too worried about it as I have some damage to the rear, so I'm back to looking at replacements for the autumn again rather than repairing... 3rd set in 2 years!

Had to abandon the sportive tomorrow so took a spin along some of their route today.

I felt like I was really struggling in the first 15 miles then just got some energy back especially towards the end. Only stopped as needed to get home to help feed the kids. Should have set out earlier I thinks

Still a nice ride mate, especially with those climbs spread throughout it!

At least I've got a spare cassette for when I need it in another ~5k miles.

Replace current and put it on a turbo wheel? :)

The fun never ends... Took out my brakes pads to fit new ones and my rear callipers are completely knackered. 2.5k miles and they're utterly seized :/ I'll try my luck with an RMA but I'm not expecting much and in the meantime I need to go and buy a replacement calliper anyhow. Sigh.

Wtf?! Those are the Ultegra calipers on your build?! Surprised they've gone that quick! :(

It is possible that I forgot the sun cream before that ride...if that is true then it is also probably I am sporting the mother of all tan lines on my arms right now. New I should have got myself a sleeveless jersey.

Rule #7. :D

Got an odd knocking type sound when i push things from the crankshaft which I'll need to look into :(

Could be a loose crankarm, pedal threads loose or even your 'wavy spring' (mine occasionally makes some horrific noises!). Worth checking front derailleur for chain rub, chainrings for warping and even your chain (check wear & also look for any damage).

Lithium grease is probably your best bet on an alloy frame, anti-seize on a carbon frame. I have a tub of weldtite tf2 grease that's done me for a couple of years and I've barely used any of it.

I'll take a look into some lithium grease (alloy peasant here :p)

Don't think it's anything chain related, but will look into the crankarms tonight before i head out again.

The underside of my left R540 pedal is scuffed to buggery after only about 4 months use from endlessly trying to clip into the wrong side...

Is this a problem with most SPD-SL's?

Great day out building my tan lines and settling the wheels in.

Pics of the wheels on your bike? Not interested in scarecrows :p

Same stuff - carbon assembly compound.

Need to get me some as my seatpost is carbon, any recommendations? I read it was good to also use on stem/bars even if both are alloy?

Any woman who cycles instantly gets a +5 point bonus.

You just wanted an excuse to make her an 11 ;)

Anyone with much to say about the TDF? Quite quiet in here... I've not seen much coverage yet, only highlights on youtube. I heard that ITV4 had some on over the weekend? Is it on 'whatevertheitvcatchupserviceiscalled'?

EDIT: Conti GP 4Seasons 700x25mm in stock at Wiggle, 43% off so £31.22 each.

I just use the standard shimano stuff I think. I'm not sure that there's much difference in the brands - it's essentially grease filled with bits of plastic :)

Dropped my bike off. They seemed to think they might get it sorted today  I'm not holding my breath but if ends up being true it would be awesome.

Hi Roady! I recently took up road cycling (April) and mainly ride around Cardiff where I live. My parents however live in Hereford and I have been following some of your routes and progress with interest over the last few months to pick up a few ideas about the rides I could do when back.

I rode this on Saturday: https://www.strava.com/activities/338965989

The Haugh Wood was surprisingly tough with two very steep parts – have you ever tried it?

Did some work to the bike this weekend seeing as though i now have a torn calf :(

I took the cassette off , split it and cleaned it with thinners and a tooth brush, got it back on nicely and then popped a new chain on too as mine was worn, done about 1500 miles. Ive had a problem with the derailleur not springing back properly but ive sorted it now, think it were torques up wrong, alls goos now though, had my jockey wheel colliding when on the top rear ring too which is now sorted.

Cant wait to get out on it properly but i think im gonna be on steady 2.5 mile rides to the train station for the next 3-6 weeks.

Shame really :(

Least the bikes got some time to have bits changed, might do my cables too seeing as though its not having any real riding done on it for the next few weeks.
