What film did you watch last night?

Goodfellas is the best gangster film bar none.

Legend really lacked any arc or character development. The story takes place over the course of about 5 minutes at the height of their power and doesn't cover much of their rise or fall - the rise is implied and the fall is only referred to in the closing titles. But yeah, Tom Hardy does a good job playing two characters.

Sicario 7/10

Nicely directed with some nice unusual sweeping and panning shots that I enjoyed. Even the thermal imaging and night vision was a cool effect.

Thought the story was a little slow and it was deliberately frustrating at times. In that I mean you felt the same frustrations the lead characters were feeling with regards to the plot. They didn't know it any more than you did and it grated on me slightly, with it all only really coming into place in the last act.

Good action flick though, very tense and some fantastic set-piece scenes.

I saw this last night and couldn't write a better summation of my thoughts

I'll give it 7.2 / 10 though :p

Faster 7.5/10

Great acting from The Rock, storyline was mediocre at best but different from the usual action movies. Also a great classic car is used which is always a bonus.

I watched that film when I had a 'Rock day' recently. Watched San Andreas, Faster, Hercules and Snitch all in one day. I would say Faster was my favourite of those. He's a rather underrated actor I think. My respect started for him when he played a gay cowboy in Be Cool.

Legend. 6/10

Was alright and Tom Hardy was brilliant contrasting the two brothers. Was entertained throughout and was never bored. Kinda like Goodfellas but set in London...and not as good, obviously.

I know nothing about the Cray twins so couldn't really tell how true to the story it was but I thought it was really good. He played both quite well. But yeah, Goodfellas/Casino it is not.

I picked this film up for £2 in a bargain bin. I only got it because I tend to find Dwayne's films entertaining if mindless. I was very impressed and really enjoyed the film. I agree it is worthy of 7.5.

I've not seen many of his films, mainly Fast 7, 6 & 5. This is why I was impressed with him as he played a completely different role and shone.

I prefer Chronicles myself. Riddick was too similar to Pitch Black in a lot of respects.

Pitch Black is one my favourite unknown horror movies though, its like 2nd to 'the thing' (to make $15m, box 19m)

Goodfellas is the best gangster film bar none.
Its not greater then godfather or Once Upon a Time in America maybe more slick

Which cinema do you go to? My Mrs is signed up for that but got really hacked off with the selection of films in Leigh. Fortunately the cinema in Bolton offers a better choice, so she gets her money's worth by going there a lot.

Just encountered a case like this, a film which I am sure you would like to see, The Program. The only place it is showing around the north west cineworlds is the one at Parrs Wood(!).

Not even Bolton is privy to it. It will probably come to Leigh at some point, just in a few weeks time. Its happened before.

Pitch Black is brilliant. As for gangster films, Godfather is way too slow for me and I've not seen Once Upon A Time In America yet, so you'll have to give me a few years on that.

Watched Riddick and enjoyed the film even if it did have a throw back element to pitch black. Overall score for the entire franchise 8.5/10.

Looking forward to seeing Vins new film Witch Hunter

The man who wasn't there

Caught it mid way and was sucked in to Billy Bobs charismatic narrative.. First Coen brothers film I have knowingly watched and certainly won't be the last.

8/10

Started watching "A Million Ways to Die in the West", watched about 25 minutes of it and then turned it off - was just dull and didn't find any of it funny - incomplete rating, but would say 3/10.

After the above, I then watched "Non Stop", which was a decent enough action film, with Liam Neeson as an Air Marshal. It delivered on it's title, with non stop action and a couple of unexpected twists. 8/10.

I've not seen Once Upon A Time In America yet, so you'll have to give me a few years on that.

Once Upon A Time In America is a classic. Sergio Leone masterpiece. Musical score by Ennio Morricone. Based on the novel "The Hoods" by Harry Grey.

A throughly enjoyable film. Make sure you watch the full uncut version which is available. You will not be disappointed. A 10/10 film.

The Martian... Best film of the year so far. I'm hoping Spectre and Star Wars will make this 3rd overall though :p

I loved the balance of humour v the terrible predicament he finds himself in, yet the funny side does not take anything away from it; its fun but still carries weight. Only silly bit or character was the young dude who comes up with the rescue plan... he was a bit annoying. Well done 3D too.

8.825/10 :p :o

Riddick is worth 8.0+/10

Best of the films to date. Didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised.

Riddick was alright, but it was a return to the Pitch Black formula, and was a little worse in every respect.

Chronicles was enjoyable in its own way, but was a thoroughly terrible film by any objective measure.

I'm not sure if you're saying that Pitch Black is better than the other two Riddick films, or just that it is your second favourite unknown horror film.

Anyway, PB is a great film, and up to now, I know of only Vonhelmet, a friend of mine and myself, that rate PB far above Chronicles. Everyone else seems to much prefer Chronicles.

Add me to the list that rates PB far above Chronicles. I tend to pretend that they're unrelated and that Vin Diesel's character is just an homage to the character in PB. I also ignore the priest & child.
