What film did you watch last night?

It's blinkered to dismiss a movie or TV show you've never watched.

I've seen all of them, most of them at the cinema. They'll never win a critics award but I enjoy them for what they are. With a movie critic head on, the first movie is the best. Four onwards are typical modern franchise creations.

Nah its not. I know enough from the trailers that I will hate every minute of watching them. So I haven't. In my opinion its a load of macho twaddle, with cars. Maybe if I were more remotely interested in cars I might find them more engaging, but I just don't.

Forgot to say, although I've now seen The Revenant, The Danish Girl and Joy this year, the one film that really is staying with me is Room. The more I think about it, the more I am coming to the conclusion that it could be my film of the year, already. It really was brilliant and I've been thinking about it for days afterwards, it won't leave my mind.

Fresh back from watching Creed. Genuinely liked the characters, it started out really strong but became a bit formulaic as it went on, to me the fighting part of it was more a distraction, had they explored the characters stories more I think it would have been more satisfying. 6/10

I'll give the room a spin based on the fact that you dismiss the fast and the furious out of hand :)

The trailer put me right off that. Looked like some hippy indie film where everybody finds joy and happiness.

And now I'm going to sound super hypocritical, but, I didn't want to go see Room either. I thought exactly the same as you. I was practically dragged there kicking and screaming by my girlfriend. Turns out my predispositions to it were completely unfounded and wrong.

I still stand by my decision not to watch F&F though! :)

Creed.

Dear Lord this movie was awful, I was genuinely bored. The pacing was almost non existent and the script was later than a three legged dog with alzheimers, and truly laughable in the last half. The one early fight was awfully choreographed and about as exciting as a maths exam, and the end finale fight was completely underwhelming. Conlan looked out of shape and delivered some horrendous lines. Compared to the fight scenes in Rocky 1-4 it was a damp squib.

I just couldn't connect to the movie on any tangible level.

5/10

Bridge Of Spies

Very good film from Spielberg with Tom Hanks playing deal maker in a prisoner exchange in Berlin. Give it year and I could watch it again.

Just got back from the Hateful Eight in the cinema. Its the perfect case of style over substance, in just about every way possible. Still had some enjoyable moments though, so I'll say 6/10

Watched this last night too, great film.

Bridge of Spies.

Not what I thought it would be, but performances were good, it had the right amount to suspense, enjoyed it.

8/10

Predestination

Friend told me about this last week, Ethan Hawke playing a kind of time cop film to stop a bomber, all to do with timeline and whatnot but the story and twist is quite original and the ending is a bit of a mind WTF moment.

Two American TV movies directed by people called Steven...

First up, Behind The Candelabra, made by Steven Soderbergh for hbo. Based on the memoir of Scott Thorson who had a lengthy relationship with Liberace. Quite interesting, and worth a watch, assuming you can cope with watching Matt Damon bumming Michael Douglas.

Second, Duel, which was Steven Spielberg's directorial debut. A businessman on a car journey is pursued by a truck driver seemingly intent on killing him. Pretty scary stuff.

Girlhood.
7/10
Enjoyable enough and it was on Amazon Prime so I killed a couple of hours watching it. It was fairly slow and a little predictable but you genuinely wanted the main character to fome out OK.

Chappie, bit like elysium and district 9. Corporate greed, lone fighter against big bussiness. Bit formulaic Neil blompkamp. But, die antwoord are brilliant in it, i like alternative rap music. But still unsure if they are a real band or a joke act.

Spring - 8/10 - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3395184/

Been on my Netflix list for a while, wasn't expected a lot outside of generic horror. It was really interesting and unique, I feel it's almost unfair to call it a horror movie. To steal a quote I saw elsewhere...

"Rich in atmosphere and intelligence, Spring is a singular horror film with a sneaky, lingering impact."
