What film did you watch last night?

I do not understand how people can not highly rate The hateful Eight.

An absolutely superb bit of storey telling, the best story telling in many many years.

10/10, it's not a watch it again and again film, it's all about the story and that it delivers on.

Hateful eight, contrary to above one of the worst films I've watched. I tried to like it, but its too slow and I almost fell asleep. Post interval much better though
4/10

Can't remember the last time I've seen such polarisation of views for a film like these, I need to get on and see it so I can judge myself.

Watched Mad Max Fury Road last night, not quite the same effect in the living room as in the cinema, but still really enjoyed it. So gripping for such a basic storyline

Running Man 7/10 - Standard fare with schwarzenneger sticking it to the bad guys
Dragon Blade 7/10 - Quite enjoyed this Jackie Chan tale.

Fast and Furious 6. Utter bilge. Dreadful. The plot was nonsense, even by the standards of the franchise. Constant boom bang crash explosion punch fight boobs bikini arse with no sense made along the way. The disregard for the laws of physics was even more ludicrous than usual.

I know I'll get hate from people saying "It's an action film durrrr" but that's no excuse. Action films don't have to be this stupid.

I swear Vin Diesel could do some pretty good serious acting if he could be bothered, so I can't help but feel he's wasted on this sort of thing, much like Jason Statham who then rocks up at the end, as if to help ram that point home.

The girl who played Gisele was mighty fine, though.

Oh yeah, and it was quite jarring seeing them driving through central London and then turning up in the Mersey tunnel :p

Totally agree, Vin Diesel is much better than this dross. Got to be the most dumbed down movie franchise ever. Cars coming out of planes.....just NO.

Both him and statham are so much better than this.

Gisele was fine, but barring having subliminal snaps of her in every second frame that wont save the film :)

I think it's because some people perhaps want/expect something like Pulp Fiction or Django and can't get on with a stageplay like film that's set in 2 locations and mainly focuses on great dialogue and character interplay.

IMO, if you're sitting there waiting for them to stop talking and get some action on the go, then you've missed the point entirely.

Problem with Hateful Eight is that it has story for about 60 minutes tops. It's literally theatrical stage play with single decoration. And that would be fine - even by Tarantino standards - Reservoir Dogs is the best example. But this almost no story stage play with a twist at the end is stretched into 3 hour movie, padded with nothing of substance - mostly by repeating n-word over and over, whether its needed or not.

Have you considered that it's not really about the story or substance?
I think that the enjoyment in this film lies in the dialogue/character interaction (and performances).

While the N word is perhaps overused - Tarantino is obviously making a point of it for whatever reason - I don't agree that it's a padding out technique. I think that you're just picking up on it's use and making more of it than it is.
Considering the time period that this takes place in, it's use or overuse isn't particularly out of place either.

I get why you and some others might not dig the film. Personally, I enjoyed the hell out of it for what it was and didn't get caught up in what I might have wanted it to be.

The franchise is basically there to cater for the "Cheeky Nando's" crowd and it's been doing that well.

Patriot Games.

Been years, still holds up for me. Not too sure how easy it would have been for Sean Beans character to swan around in America would have been, or the 'royal' being exposed over at jacks house for dinner being a credible scenario. Good cast and Characters though, Clear and Present Danger the next in the series is maybe the better film in my eyes.

Solid watch, good 7. RiP Richard Dawson Best gameshow host in cinema history:)

The Revenant - 7/10

Very loud and brutal action action scenes. Some nice cinematography. Some artsy stuff that didn't really fit. Some mumbled dialogue from Hardy. A real believable struggle from DiCaprio.

A good film but they're have been better this Oscar year imo.

I've not seen a single Fast and Furious film and I don't think I ever will. They all look like terrible no-brain involved explosion fests. No thank you.

I'll defend the first one. The first is worth a watch. It's silly, but coherent. The longer the franchise goes on, the bigger and sillier it gets, and the less sense any of the plots make.

It's also got Jordana Brewster in it, but ymmv ;)
