As i mention he's my friend and i do the maintenance/upgrade work about all of the computers. I will see in the next 4 weeks what is going on with the aftermarket coolers. I know, most of you would jump in to the deal but he's my friend and known by my family.... I will still get a decent price even after 1080Ti release :D Most likely £180 . So i got nothing to lose.
My main problem is the upgrade of the new VGA. I don't really see to point yet to upgrade to GTX 1080 with the current throttling conditions. I have to spend someone else money, so i have to be caution! He's gonna have VR set as well. So i can try it to GTX 580 :D

I have a feeling there will not be a ti or a titan for this range. But there were rumors of another chip GP102 that may be the ti and titan.. but who knows.

GP100 is not a graphics part it's compute only so you will not see a graphics card based on that.
 
I'll wait a while for the non-ref 1080's and 1070's before buying. Prices should settle lower too by then (6-8 weeks).
 
If all this is true about the throttling then surely nv will ship with different fan profile? I cannot see them allowing the card to throttle down to base clock after 10 mins. Should run cooler than maxwell too although clocks higher thought would be about the same

You made it sounded like they care about performance of the card for actual users rather than just benchmarks performance that's essential for driving sales...:p

They could have a setting too. A listbox for different profiles like quiet,normal,performance where the latter allows max boost to be achived for the duration

It would be interesting if reviewers tested in a room with an ambient temp of 28c or more. The reason I say this is my room gets over 28c after a few hours gaming even on a cold day. For me it is not a problem with watercooled cards but I think some air cooled ones would throttle a bit.:D

I think part of their problem maybe similar to newer CPUs on node shrinks. Even though they produce less heat it is concentrated in a smaller area making cooling harder.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Polaris GPUs in this regard.

The Founder Edition's Boosted clock is throttling just be being inside a case as oppose to in the open bench being used for reviews in general.

IMO more reviewers should do graphic card reviews running them inside a case like that video review did.

I agree

All testing should be done inside a case.

It would also be nice if the tech sites could agree on some standard cases for testing with.

TTL @OC3D is going to be posting a 1080 review today I think and he definitely uses a case for his testing, this may be worth a read.
 
I think it'll be good to see how real users get on with these cards, using retail cards, in gaming scenario's. NV would have tested in lots of scenario's, i'd be very surprise if the FE cards clocked back down to near base levels during gaming of only 10 or so mins. I'd be less surprised if they gave the fan control a more "quiet" profile on the products given to reviewers, knowing how they test them (open case) where they could probably pick up on a loud fan noise and where the gpu will run a bit cooler anyway.

1 week today will some have them I wonder?
