Does anybody know of insurers that will cover a bicycle whilst in transit with an airline? I've heard some cover remains valid provided receipt from the airline is obtained.
I have my bicycle as a specified item on my UK contents insurance, which also provides 60 days worldwide cover, against accidents/loss/theft (provided locked & secure etc). But doesn't apply when not in my possession.
I will query with EasyJet if their bog standard £500 cover can be increased and if the charge is reasonable...
Of course the other option is that any damage incurred in transit didn't happen in transit, if you catch my drift...
I'm not overly worried or concerned, it'll be in a hardcase but peace of mind is always a blessing.

Check out Bikmo, always been reasonably priced and their coverage is excellent.
Thanks, they seem slightly more competitive and offer quite a bit as standard, including bike box cover to £500.
I'll see what the annual premium is on my content insurance when it renews in August. They wanted £14 to insure up to £2k from today until the end of July.
Ideally my contents insurance has me covered, except in transit
. Free travel insurance from my bank covers liability & cycling activities and some of my baggage value. So really all I need is a British Cycling membership for UK liability. If the bundled cost of my home insurance premium and a BC membership comes out with a higher total it makes sense to go down the specialist route.I went for b+b cheapo hotel last year and then half board breakfast and dinner this year. Last year was ridiculously cheap but I was by myself, this year was more expensive but took away all the hassle! If you can share the cooking the villa will be more economical and a nicer place to be, I would always prefer this if I could persuade everyone else to do the same, but then I don't mind cooking!
Yep, put it in last night as it happens.
I decided to take both pedals off though they say only the non drive side is required but I didn't want any bent or snapped spokes if it were to get crushed, as there is no anti-crush pole like on the BBA (though I hear it's a PITA).
The VeloVault seems reasonable value and well received.

Some more fastening straps on the Scicon would be useful but aren't needed. Having a foam backing & loads of fastening straps, like the BBA would be my preference but there's nothing to stop you making one cheaply yourself.
The bike 'hangs' in the Scicon from two straps at the top, I've covered the majority of the frame in pipe insulation, removed both pedals, taken the bars out the stem, fitted a chain keeper and taped the rear mech forward/up as I didn't fancy removing it. Additionally I've taped cardboard packing tubes to the front forks and seat stays to limit movement in all directions, especially to stop any potential damage to the rear mech. Everything else is wrapped in bubble wrap and popped in a drawstring bag that came with the case. Room for a spare set of road shoes and other accesories too still.
Will take some pictures at some point.

Only two bikes on the flight, they weren't actually weighed at Gatwick as they are checked in and tagged at the same desk as standard hold luggage, so we gave our best estimations Only things like bottles, spares, a second set of shoes etc went in with the boxes and no issues (Easyjet), could have got away with more most probably. Seemed to be handled well & with care, no visible signs of scuffing/impact or damage. Built them up fine too, better to got OTT with the packing than regret it.
And today's first ride turned out to be rather glorious... nothing too strenuous of course... this is between rain & thunderstorms by the way

I'd like to get away again later this year but don't think I'll have the numbers to make a Villa in Majorca feasible. SHC seems to be pretty reasonable value in October and I've not read anything catastrophic...

From a really quick google, it looks like you can get half-board accommodation at Fergus (Pollensa park) for around £380ish. Add in airport transfers and it'll be roughly the same price (maybe slightly cheaper?).
So it would be a choice between going with a group and a guide but having to cook your own meals (or eat out every day) or cycling on your own but having breakfast and dinner included.
I would choose to ride on my own - but that's a biased opinion because I've been loads of times and know my way around the island pretty well so I wouldnt get any benefit from a guide.
In October it's the Playa Mar, Puerto Pollensa. Thompson are offering flights & 7 nights all inclusive for between £360-£450. Flights alone (with bike (£70) are roughly £140~
So that makes for 7 nights:
SHC (half board)
Cycle Camp/Holiday inc. Transfers -£445
Flights - £140
£585
Solo with Thompson (all inclusive)
Flights + Hotels +Transfers -£360
+Bike luggage- £30 (clarifying)

Could actually get another 3 nights out there for the less than SHC. The guided rides aren't a necessity as it's a popular enough destination that finding good routes & climbs on Strava/the web is easy. Just the lack of any support in an emergency is slight grey area though Maxeh & I did just fine in Germany and provided you're not off the beaten track or at odd hours it'd probably be alright...
Did have a club member who seemed keen to go so I'll give him a nudge this weekend.

Majorca is so easy to get around anyway and all the best routes are easy to find. I'd generally go for your own thing just means you can do what ys you want. Altho a week on your own can be a little disheartening after the first 4 or 5 days. Car hire is so cheap out of season too. We got a car for a week in Feb for 35 quid (hyundai i40) made it easier to grab bits and gave flexibility if needed.

Has anyone done a cycling holiday somewhere warm in November/December? Ideally would be mid-20s and coastal. Thinking Tenerife or Lanzarote but not sure if there would be enough to keep us interested for a couple of weeks.
I went to Lanzarote last Christmas for a week. There is enough there for a week or so of riding I'd say although you might cover some of the same roads a bit. It's worth doing the main climbs from both directions.
Weather was warm, sunny and dry but the wind there is annoying!
I've been to Tenerife in early february. It fits your weather requirements but I think you'd get bored if you went for more than 1 week.
I was in the south of the island and couldnt find any flat roads at all. I love hills but after a week with nothing but climbing or descending I was sick of them.
