No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

I think Sean Murray comes across as an intelligent man, but friendly and likeable (granted I have not met him and I have only ever seen him on streams/presentations).

He is not a salesman, hype man, or Peter Molyneux ;). I think he is refreshing whenever he is on screen as he understands the best way to sell (me) a game is to show you the actual game, not make claims or promises.
 
Sorry if this has been asked before.

The game sounds great mostly. But after you have shot a few pirates and discovered a few planets and animals, and took off and landed a few times etc, what other content is there? Is there some sort of endgame or campaign available? Also is it only just currently flying small single person ships?
 
For all that people say about Sony and this game, it is clear that it has been lead by someone for whom it is a labour of love. They will continue to support this, it is their first big title and I am sure is the start of much more from them. Watching the streams I honestly can't wait to play this on Friday. This is very much a concept that excites me and not many games do that to me anymore.

I cracked and watched Sean play last night, and I can only Echo the above. Sean has a passion for his project that I've not seen in a long time. This is his baby and he wants it to be the best it can be. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but for those of us who love this kind of game, it will be wonderful.

I'm now more excited than ever for Friday's release. Bring it on.

Labour of love or not, this game is shaping up to be a disappointment.

I don't get why people are drawn in by 'personalities' like this guy, rather than base their purchases on the quality of the final product.

The video above kinda makes the whole experience seem pretty monotonous.

the game is marketed by Sean as a chill out game. It's not for the hardcore gamer and it's never been eluded to in that sense.

I'll enjoy getting in from a long day at work and unwinding with this. It feels very minecraft to me.

It's obvious that the guy in the video above doesn't like the game, which is fair. However his tone on the video (as well as his script) leaned very heavily into conveying that he thinks it's boring.

He's a programmer that actually builds the game, rather than a designer with a head full of grand visions.

More programmers should be the face of games. I'm going to put it to my boss :cool:

Hmmm...I have had my doubts that this is a title for me but that video seems to confirm that its just not the right one for me. Having watched that, I dont think its a game which would keep me interested for more than an hour or two. After that it would just sit unplayed on my hard drive. Especially with Deus Ex, Battlefield 1 and Civ 6 coming out over the next couple months , which are 3 which will consume most of my playing time.

It seems to be what I'd anticipated it to be, a chill out game. I expect all the resource gathering woud get tedious for me so I don't think I'll buy it. I was interested in the language learning aspect but I'm not sure that NPCs will have anything to say outside of trading chat, bartering etc.

To be fair I expect that most disappointment will come from those that expected this game to be something that it never claimed it was.
 
Or you know, a game which will appeal to some people, and not others.

The way the gaming community these days tries to pigeonhole every game onto some objective quality scale and the internet erupts into blazing arguments about who is right....*yawn*.
 
This is a little bit disappointing/concerning

Q: Is PC getting a midnight release?
A: The reality is that we're still here working on it right now. There's no conspiracy, we're just racing to get all the extra options and stuff we want. PS4 comes out tomorrow and we'll just try to pretend it's a normal work day! Best guess right now is 6pm GMT on Friday, but we'll keep you up to date as we get closer.

I don't see it as disappointing or concerning. The game is gold, they have already made a fairly substantial patch. They just want to keep working on it and I see that as a good thing.

I'm not really worried. If they want to continue tweaking things for us PC gamers (Like FOV - which is important to a lot of us), then that's all gravy :)

As long as we get it at some point on Friday, I'm ok with that.
 
The PC version is the only thing really concerning me at the moment, it sounds more and more like its been left to the last minute... I really hope its a decent version of the game in the end.

Can't be any worse than every other major title in the past 3 or so years. Everything 'AAA' is a console port now.
