Npower rant

We jumped from NPower to ovo and they've been great. However, ovo prices are going to jump come renewal time and other providers quotes are cheaper.

Do these companies price match? I'd like to stay with ovo.

I've been with Scottish power who were the worst bunch of lying incompetents I've ever dealt with and who took about a year to resolve a problem. I then moved to first utility who were polite but also incompetent and slow, taking several months to resolve a different issue. I've now decided that all power companies are likely to be just as rubbish as the others so have moved to the cheapest tariff for me, which just happens to be with npower.

Think I had 6 concurrent complaints open with Npower. Finally got rid when I moved. TO a house supplied by BG. Ugh, just as bad. Have been round several suppliers since, M&S, SSE, GB and now Co-Op. None have been even in the same league of incompetence as Npower/BG.

I've just had an incident with EDF. I went on one of their new price plans, as I do every year, but it came up with £169 monthly payment on an estimated bill of £900 a year. I dont understand how they can charge you £169 when their estimate is only £900.
I spoke to them and got the monthly payment reduced to £69, I even tripple checked this amount would not go up at least until I gave my 3 monthly readings. As you can guess they put it back to £169 without my knowledge. They have now refund the money but im sure this wont be the last I hear about this.
Had no problems for the last two years, always had a realistic DD, with no surprises.

It was good to see the Npower customer issues got noticed by the regulator and a £26m fine issued in December 2015 :)

I just submit meter readings then it tells me how much I owe.. pay it and bobs your uncle

That's how it's supposed to work. Sadly energy companies can't often deal with something as simple as that as I found out a few years back.

Best move we made was from Npower to Ovo, paying a lot less and they even sorted us with spiffy smart meters

Gah. I just got my monthly DD from Npower it's larger than the mortgage! It wouldn't be so bad if they got their sums right but last time I looked my account was £300+ in credit! Wheres that phone number again...

If only. They don't send you a bill for how much you owe like water they send you a bill for how much they think you'll owe, or use, over a 12 month period. This usually entails them removing far more from your bank account then you'll ever likely to use and then you trying to claim it back at some later period...

Nice to see my employers name hasnt cropped up yet in this thread... yet lol

If you want npower to start ******** bricks raise a formal complaint and make sure they backdate it to the original time you raised the issue in 2014. Energy suppliers have to report about their complaint figures and having a 2 year complaint will spur someone on.

The problem with Npower is they chucked the vast majority of its back office work offshore so you have someone dealing with it who doesnt really have a clue nor the tools to resolve it.

Re going to the ombudsman you need to have a complaint thats open for 56 days or more or has been deadlocked. Ombudsman are slow but they would undoubtedly rule in your favor as they get a copy of all notes and actions from npower as part of their investigation.

It sounds like they dont understand the debt or the prepay system and they are trying to wing it.

Who do you work for HybridX if you don't mind me asking? Of course you don't need to answer (if it's against forum rules too?!)

I've been with FirstUtility since I moved house a year ago and they've been really good (and cheap).

Same here and couldn't be happier would recommend them to anyone.

The app is great for sending in meter readings but I don't even have to do that anymore as they arranged for smart meters to be installed last November.

I received the updated tariff for Jan 2017 from Ovo and it is 30.8% increase in electricity and 28.3% increase in gas rates.

I contacted to ovo to say that this is unreasonable and that I found a quote from So Energy which is 2.57p per kwh for Gas and 12.11p per kwh of electricity and 18.9p standing charges on both gas and electricity. All prices inclusive of VAT. This equates to a saving of £313 per annum based on my usage with ovo (20,000 kwh gas, 5,000 kwh electricity)

I got a call from Ovo a day later to say "we're aware that we're not competitive right now but we can't price match unfortunately"

Given I've just had my smart metre installed I figured I'd give ovo 1 more month to see what their new rates will be and if still absurdly expensive then I'll switch to SoEnergy
