Is there any reason the extreme amp trumps the gaming x apart from out the box clock speeds? Think I'm going for the gaming x as have always preferred msi as a supplier. Had 290x in crossfire and currently 980ti in sli, all msi but time to give up the dual card game as it seems to be a dying art.

Nice score and I won't be running it again or at least at 1080P. I will give a 3440x1440 run to see how I fare Very pleased with my card though and runs 2050Mhz all day long with no issues at all

Which Card did you get Gregster was it the Gigabyte

agreed, to be honest in some scenerios i find my 1080 FE is as quiet as my 1080Ti Aorus

The Aorus is a lovely looking card too. Well built, solid design.

The Ti's are so fast, I wonder will I actually need a new GPU for years.. I'll still bloody want em though xD

meh, it can not max Witcher 3 at the framerate i want so.... not their yet

You will be happy with the cooler on the AMP Extreme. One of the coolers I have ever seen. Much better than the one on my G1 Gaming. The only problem you will likely be faced with is fans reving (unless they finally fixed that issue in BIOS), but it can easily be fixed if you just make your own custom profile on afterburner.

I wonder if the cooler on the AMP Extreme 1080Ti is the exact same as the one on the 1070 or if it is an even bigger beast. If the same, it obviously won't be as quiet as my 1070 was due to all the extra heat.

Fans reving issue is a thing of the past, not on this card matey.

So how is the G1 Gaming? If it gets a bit toasty I can set a fan curve. my case isn't the best for cooling given the Motherboard inside space wise.

for 1440p no point, single 1080Ti is perfect,

Also looking at a MSI Gaming right now, actually the only one available atm in my country. The Zotac AMP raised my interest, but is quite a bit higher priced, and I think this card will be more than enough for me. I should probably go for it, I don't recall reading a bad thing about it.

On both Asus and Aorus cards yes, likewise on Zotac AMP too. Though AMP Extreme still has too many pre-orders as only 10pc AMP Extreme arriving next week. But saying that even Zotac AMP is very fast card too and good price!

i am sorry for sounding so dumb but my gaming x has x 2 8 pin connectors,

is it safe to use 2 separate 8 pin connections on it, the one i have used before is max 6pin and 8 pin. That is all my evga P2 850 has in its cables, separate 8 pins or a combined 6 pin 8 pin cable

Yes, all modern psu's get 12v from the same rail, unless you have a switch on the psu which has split the rails, but usually that's older psu's i think.
