Has anything been published yet? What did he actually do? If it's a question of a tiny misjudgement on the 1s rule then stewards should show discretion on a manual call.

I thought they said on C4 that the team were celebrating as it was reported no further action has been taken

not true?

Stroll and Magnussen results have the same wording.

Seems fair if no advantage was gained. Well, unless you are a Ferrari fan who wants everyone in front of them disqualified.

But when did it happen? Using DRS always improves lap time, so they can't just say no overtaking no gain, maybe he decreased the distance with the driver in front of him, which is also an advantage.

Recorded the race as I was out earlier, thanks to the safety cars stretching the race out my record stopped on the penultimate lap! Damnit. Atleast it didn't go a few laps earlier or I'd have been really grumpy.

True, but so does cutting a corner but they don't take an extreme attitude on that too. Sensible decision given the DRS problems.

It was primarily down to a mistake, no intent to cheat and it was also because the FIAs automatic system managing DRS broke and the way to work around it caused the mistake to happen.

We're talking about drs use for a second or two and iirc it was being said it was after his pit exit, so down the second drs zone, not down the main straight so little to no time gained, you're talking about a couple of tenths max and not because they intended to cheat but pretty much caused by the FIAs own screw up. Penalising him for that would be crazy.

I gave it a seven

The redbull battle was great, the grosjean incident killed the end of the race IMO

feel gutted for vettel would have won the race IMO

He almost certainly wouldn't have won without the safety car. The situation was that slow tires were categorically slower than 30 lap old, qualified on supersofts. After pitting Hamilton and Vettel both of whom were pulling comfortably away from Bottas were losing time. Fresh softs vs old supersofts on Bottas who was slower in that car than either of the others had been. Before the safety car Bottas was pulling away from Vettel and had moved easily to a point in the race he could pit for ultrasofts and go to the end. Bottas was going to come out most likely <6 seconds behind Vettel with a significantly faster tire with say 20 laps to go. Vettel had nearly no chance to win that race.

The safety car actually enabled Hamilton and Vettel to get onto the same tire as Bottas and both had a shot at the win because as before, both drivers were faster than Bottas till their pitstops. Vettel having been gifted a free pitstop to get onto the right tire compound boned the first corner and cost himself a few places.

How does Perez keep his 3rd place after illegally using DRS?

FIA wants to help mercedes as much as they can

As the other post, the FIAs DRS system broke, switching to a different DRS mode caused the light to go on temporarily and they got all of a few seconds of DRS usage extra in the race, DRS down the entire main straight will give you half a second gain, they probably gained a couple of tenths at absolute best and the fault pretty much falls on FIAs system failing and zero intent on the team to cheat.

If you're opening the DRS flap on purpose intending to cheat is a completely different situation.

Most retirements i've seen in a race for a while, at least that i can remember.
I wasnt keen on Baku when it first came to the calendar, but it actually delivers not just as a street circuit but as a circuit in general, love the epic straight.

Fairly bold move but ultimately silly move by Vettel in the end. Cost him the win.

Hindsight is wonderful. Fair play to Vettel for being bad and having a go straight away. Pretty safe move too, with a secure run off. It was rolling the dice on how many points.

Nope not in 4 races.
‘96 was 6 races in, I believe...
Forti and Minardi didn't score any points in 1996 (or ever in Forti's case).

Not sure I'll enjoy watching it if it ever rains properly. Those blind kinks on the straight will be terrifying just watching.

But you're right, it's a proper street track and it leads to a good race in the right conditions (the partial headwind on the straight today helped massively).
