******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

No one will be starting fresh, there will be no level playing field. The amount of in game wealth that will have accumulated by the time the game launches has more or less guaranteed the economy will be completely broken.

Which is the biggest shame with the project...the dev delays are annoying, but the real money in game economy is what made me refund.

My only hope is that when they decide they can't have everyone in one shard, that they will launch some ''clean slate' shards where no real-money purchases or backer rewards are allowed.

Fingers crossed.

But this isn't EVE? It's not a player driven economy and they have stated that multiple times.

Clueless as usual.

What does that even mean?

It's an MMO with currency and items and an economy.

Players are given the option to pay real money for in game items and currency, and have done....a lot.

Those players will start the game with an advantage over players that don't spend money. It's not really up for debate, that's their business model.

Constructive as usual. Care to enlighten us?

I would be interested to hear about what design mitigations they are putting in place to balance the game experience in the context of the hundreds of millions of dollars worth of in-game assets that have been purchased to date.

This is my primary concern with the game...the elephant in the room that they are pretty much stuck with, as they can't row back on things that have already been sold.

It would be nice to hear some actual constructive feedback to these concerns. As someone that doesn't follow the game closely any more it doesn't appear as if this is being addressed.

It would be great if they can offer a 'backer' free online experience for normal day 1 purchasers to choose to start on a level playing field if they wish. Unlikely to happen though as it would be taken as a dilution of the assets that have already been purchased.

Unless it has changed, due to the way they planned to do the instancing you would never be flying around with everyone in the EVE sense of it, only with a subset of people and the majority of other ships /characters would be NPC.
So it doesn't really matter how many big shiney ships they sell as it wouldn't skew your experience as they wouldn't all be there with you anyway.

Seems we're going in circles here,
Is there anything specific you're focussing on which makes it seem broken?
Does my post about instancing not explain some of the balancing to your liking?
NOt sure it does. because if majority have payd ££ your stuck with those players who inferior ships and weapons.

Its cheating really and should reset to a level playing field

Well I'm not saying it would group people by ship size etc, I don't know how it will work,
But the proposal is that the majority of the people around you would be NPC's which would have a vast cross section of the different ship types.

So it doesn't matter if 100's of people have bought big weapons/ships, as there's 1000's of NPC's with better & worse setups.
Human players were to be the minority.

So what happens if they materially change something someone has bought and paid for after the fact? Someone ponies up £1k for some capital ship with x turbolasers, 10 all player crew and even ships that can fly out of it controlled by other pilots then when the game launches they have half as many weapons, no dockable, player controlled ships and now only seats 4 players? That's contract breaking right there. Or even worse they then decide that such a ship is vastly overpowered and nerf (sorry, balance) it. Does that then mean anyone that paid for the original gets as refund? In full or part? How much? It's a total minefield.

It's a total minefield.

The entire project is a minefield and theory crafting about capital ship sales and their impact on the economy is pointless. There are no capital ships at the moment, no economy, no instances, nothing.

It is shocking how empty the 'game' is after 6 years and that is why the cultists respond aggressively to any form of critique. There are no rational arguments to be made so the only alternative is an emotional reaction.

get a refund and let everyone start fresh

It's all instanced now? I thought back when the ED vs SC midslinging was going on the big plus for SC was that it's a single coherent collection of systems with meaningful player impact on the shared world? Not like ED where everyone plays in a siloed sandbox separate from the rest of the players...?

How does that work with the plots of land they're selling? Do you own the land in all instances?
