What film did you watch last night?

The Han Solo film.... The Lando/ Han actors were actually better than expected. l found the film tolerable up to the point that the droid was introduced. The scene with the droid dying in Lando's arms was like a comedy skit or parody.

Yeh, the whole droid thing was just ridiculous. Lando is a womaniser in empire strikes back, but here they have him as a droid loving weirdo. A damned annoying feminist bot too. Ugh.

Superbob

Watched it on Prime because I like Brett Goldstein (recommend his podcast, and look out for him in next week's Doctor Who).

Low budget British superhero/ comedy / rom-com movie. Enjoyed it, it's got heart.

Ocean's 8

Honestly I don't get all the hate, wasn't amazing, but it wasn't terrible either, perfectly enjoyable.

6/10

I can think of plenty of first movies that weren't needed :p

Very true :p

But a good sequel is a pretty rare thing. And a sequel better than the original is almost nonexistent.

Actually, I can think of a few:
Empire strikes back
The Dark Knight
Godfather 2
The Wrath Of Khan

First Man - 8/10
Great film this, I suspect would have been even better if I had seen it in 4DX because the launch sequences would have lent themselves immensely to it.

Focuses more on the people and family side of it and the stress and strains it put everyone under.

Bohemian rhapsody

Easy 10/10!!

Remi malek has to win an oscar for his performance its really hard to believe that it isnt freddie in the actual film

Want to go see it again

John Carpenter's 1982 The Thing. don't think I'd seen it since part of a John Carpenter and/or Kurt Russell binge at uni, I think I even did the same double bill I did the first time I watched it, which was following it wit Ghosts of Mars.

The Thing is excellent, what I love about Carpenter is he almost seems to come up with a premise and then let it sort of write itself, rather than trying to force plot elements into it, so everything seems to happen naturally from the circumstances, and The Thing might be one of his best examples of this. Also, the creature makeup/practical effects barely seems dated in 2018, so it must have freaked people out a load back then...still not sure why they have flamethrowers on the base though, but I'm willing to believe there'd be a reason.

Ghost of Mars...doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is, a trashy, slick action horror sci-fi that almost tries to do too much at once (matriarchal society for no apparent reason other than to flip the usual gender dynamics of this sort of film a bit). Everyone seems to know what sort of film they are in, especially Messrs Statham and Cube, who are both great fun in it. I didn't finish it a I was tired, will finish it off tonight...it is a very average film I just find Carpenter directs extremely watchable films (Big Trouble...)

A Quiet Place - really interesting dynamics throughout. Very different to everything out there.

I thought it was incredibly well written, didn't leave any horrendous questions throughout (often answering them as I'm thinking them), and excellent acting.

9/10 for me.
