That's the main issue with Vega but for enthusiasts it shouldn't be a reason mot to grab one, especially at current pricing with 3 free games, I'm still playing around with mine but I don't mind & it's providing flawless 3440x1440 freesync gaming, A better experience than I got with my 1080.

The Vega 64 is for the true overclocking and tweaking enthusiasts. Is not for those noobs pulling a slider to +150mhz, seems like a big overclocking achievement.
 
As there was the "old Athlon setups" discussion...

I had a silly setup on a barton cored Xp2500+ at one point. Was ~3.4ghz under phase change IIRC (from 1.83ghz base) using a vapochill PE. Easily my most mental setup. Effectively a... 5500+ or similar.

Would love hardware we could tinker with to that degree again :)

Still having an MP 2800+ and the Abit NF7 upstairs. What a magnificent CPU. Had it same period with a Club3d ATI 9500np pencil moded to 9700pro.
These were the days..

Look current 2000 series, and Vega 64 are for tinkering. Especially if you do not get an Asus board and try do PBO with M7 or G7.
And wrote not Asus, because it has the tendency to push a lot of power to make the overclocks stick, completely wasting the concept of PBO.
 
LOL all this talk of classic hardware is making want to refurbish my old stuff and get it working again. Mostly the caps are gone but could probs fix it...

Tomorrow, AMD is going to talk a lot about their 7nm products which includes both CPUs and GPUs. While GPU talk would be mostly centered around Vega 20 with a possible look at AMD’s NAVI GPU which is aimed for launch sometime in 2019, the CPU talk would go around the AMD ZEN 2 CPU architecture. The event will start at 12 AM (Eastern Time) on 6th November, 2018.

The TSMC 7nm process was giving the options to AMD to either cut 60% power or improve 30%+ the clocks. I bet AMD went for the second choice for Ryzen.
And if 15% IPC improvement is true, then at 5-5.2Ghz it will be giving a hell of a beating to the 9900K.

And clock speed it what keeps Vega 64 behind also. At ~1670 is faster than a GTX1080 @ 2190 by around 6%.

If it had a 30% speed bump, it could be beating the crap out of the GTX1080Ti also.

Btw what time is the Next Horizon event tomorrow?

I bet this is exactly what AMD next graphics card will be, a 7nm VEGA with clocks in the 2200mhz range. That would put the performance somewhere in between 2080 and 2080TI and if they could price it correctly then they would really give NVIDIA a dose of what intel is getting right now. They really need a whole new architecture to compete with whatever NVIDIA has planned for 7nm.

not long left till we find out, 6-7 more months.

I'll be very surprised if AMD give Intel a good beating in low threaded stuff, looking forward to the event.

Maybe finally some decent jumps coming to CPUs, and by that i don't mean just core count.
 
Could be interesting. Would love to see them getting higher than 4.6ghz on next gen Zen. Could tempt me away from 5ghz 8700k that could.

Well there's two theory's going about at the moment. First is 4.6GHz with a 13% IPC increase and second is 5.1GHz still with a 13%IPC increase. Gotta wait for actual numbers as usual but future's definitely looking more Red than Blue at the moment.

Well, for desktop Ryzens, staying with the same power characteristics but increasing performance, might be the goal... but imagine 7nm mobile Ryzens - the performance of Ryzen 7 2700 (65W) @25-30W

Doesn't the link state 12AM Eastern Time, that should be already happening... Now, it is 3:28 AM ET.
 
Like what I seeing on the rumours but will have to wait for real results before getting to excited. Will most likely upgrade again as that was the original plan 1600x to a 3xxx on my CH6 but I got the 2700x for about £120 after selling my 1600x and prism cooler.
 
Is there a stream for this event or is it more of a conference call type thing and not open to the public?

On a personal level, I hope it makes the 9900k look like a toy. I hope AMD really smash the **** out of it.

These incremental Intel updates are no good to anyone.
