Don't agree :). It has a proper engine unlike the Cayman and is a proper sportscar unlike the M2. I really like the M2 and it may be a toss up between this and the M2.
I think Toyota has spent a bit reducing weight too. Not seen the numbers but a similar weight to a cayman would be nice.
I think the price is fair, personally. They'll probably be more rare than the Cayman too.

It's £54k for pete sake... for a Toyota (well a low/middle of the range BMW).

They're basically pitching this directly against the Cayman, yet it carries none of the badge appeal of a Porsche, has a lower quality interior and quite likely worse performance.

They should have gone cheaper; stuck a turbo on the GT86 and stripped it out a little more. Taken the fight to the Alpine rather than the Cayman.
 
I am struggling to like it. I want to, but there are too many design elements I just don't like. The roof looks like a child drew it, the slash down the side is awful, the interior is just a BMW interior with Toyota badges, it's completely wasted on me.

Out of interest, why haven't BMW made a Z4 coupe? Is it part of the deal that prevents them from doing so?

I'd wager a new Z4 coupe would have made this look fairly redundant.

Also, as many people seem to be suggesting, isn't this just a 370Z but £24k more expensive?

Problem is the Cayman's cost ramps up to silly levels once you start adding options and everything is an option.

Also the current one is a lot more expensive than the old one, for no reason other than Porsche. The old one had more engine too.
 
It also only has 15 more BHP than the MK4 had. 25 years later and the Supra has gone from a technological GT car to a mid range BMW. This is just a M135i with a pretty frock? Does it even have an LSD?
 
I quite like it, it does seem a bit pricy though. Nothing against the badge I personally prefer the car that is the best and most fun to drive regardless of it having a Lada badge or a Lamborghini badge.

I have never understood badge snobbery.

At the moment it'a a no from me. I think it has too many cuts and slashes for my liking, not as clean as the concept car. However I find with modern cars they often look better in the flesh, McLaren, Senna aside, being a great example. I think it is also too expensive for what it is, but once again car prices are mad these days, list prices at least. However the Japanese more than any nation know how to make a reliable sports car that is cheap to run and this could fit that well. It needs to drive really really well like a GT86 or MX5 does, but with lots more horses to compete with cars of a similar value. Boxster/Caymans are not what they are anymore more purely down to losing the flat 6 but they are still the best drives in the class, Alpine included.

True...but to be fair to Toyota, has there ever been a concept that wasn't?
I think we're all disappointed that it's not the FT1, but at the same time, I think we all knew that it never was going to look like that in reality.

You are right about the over-detailing, but I would still like to see it in the flesh...the video walk around made it look much more enticing. I certainly won't be buying new, but I have to admit, assuming this drives well, this has piqued my interest as a potential replacement for the GT86, and not many cars have done that. I might well be looking at them in a couple of years time at a more reasonable price. And I wonder if six-cylinders might be enough to sway those disappointed by the Porsche flat 4.

but do think someone did an oopsie and put the mirrors on the wrong way :o
