Brand new build roughly £1000

Ssd is good
Psu is good
Gpu - very impressive results on 3dmark and stress test would be suprised if its that.

Memory- will test after tea time.

So leave mobo an cpu.

Might just send both back and replace if possible should be after tonight

Might also buy a aftermarket cpu cooler mugen one i was plannning on getting eventually anyway...

Funny thing is i ordered all this as i couldnt b botherd waiting for 7/7 by the time i get it fixed it might be closer to then haha kill me now

The memtest, test can be left to its own devices - 400% would take a while. But, i would go and appease the lady of the house and 4 is a great age. Go and chill for a bit - convince him/her that you'll be digging for cheese tomorrow on the moon. I've kept up this ruse for years - even at 8 my daughter is still unsure - even with proof! Her teachers probably despair...

Try Prime Small-FFT just to see if it behaves differently.
That basically tests CPU's internal functionality leaving main memory/RAM out.
Though CineBench should also mostly work in CPU's caches with less stress on memory system.

got 6 mem tests running all past 200% at the min so far so good.

will try some more prime / cinebench when these are done see how its going.

Emailed CCL to get the ball rolling with return, their policy is they receive & inspect, if they find no fault they will send back out.

Mayaswell get the mobo sent at the same time to Very at least its done....
 
Check their Returns Policy for "Unwanted Goods" (14 days). That's what you want to assert you want as you get a refund. They may try to steer you into another option. Make it clear you're not seeking their advice, you are stating your desire, point them to their own website if needed.

Otherwise you could be waiting around for up to 30 days. Or get a faulty CPU back.

Wouldn't send the board back yet. I'd test with new CPU first.
 
verys return policy is very good they always refund right away so have ordered a new one and will return this one.... should have it tuesday

I will push with ccl for either a instant refund or replacement asap
 
What was the BIOS version that came with the board? (if it was bang up to date you may have received a return).

It did have the newest update on it.

I only updated to the beta 1 which was above it

And there was no seal on the box so could have easily been opened before....

Motherboard boxes don't tend to come with seals/wrapped (tape on anti-static bag - but that's easily taped up) - a March update is possible - but must have been a very recent batch...

hmm possibly hard to tell really :(

well ive ordered a new one to get del tuesday

will wrap this one up tonight and send off tomorrow.

tuesday I will test new board with everything and if same problem ill carry on the push for the cpu return.....

summary of faults now -

  • wont boot without boost mode active
  • cannot complete prime test
  • will complete cinebench15 but not 20
  • can do some gpu bench test but not all without rebooting

just ordered the

Scythe SCMG-5100 Mugen 5 Rev.B CPU Cooler

aswell so will whack that on when sorted out

pc is weird, been sat on it last hour just browsing etc and not 1 problem

not tried any games or anything on it yet tho other than benching but its not just not how a 1200 pc should be running (1450 including monitor!)

Will be in full silence tonight after i rip the mobo out and package it up :( bit of a break for me till tuesday tho hah!
 
Guys... I've read ever post on this thread and jesus... This is exactly why I would be too scared to build my own pc..... If it was me it would have gone through the window by. now. Anyway keep up the good work and I can't wait to find out what the problem was...

yeah its been quite an adventure hope you had your popcorn!!

pretty much at a standstill now until tuesday when new mobo arrives and will see where that takes us!
