AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

16GB B-die DIMMs are dual rank, something not liked by memory controller of current Ryzens.
At least with first gen Ryzen achievable memory speed difference was notable.

Haven't seen similar for Ryzen 2xxx, but this hints toward that:

Hopefully the improved memory controller will make this less of an issue.

You will need to add Ram for pre KabyLake / Haswell-E.

Some of it, maybe. But beyond that everything else is surplus to requirement.

If you have a 95 Watt 4770K a 65 or 95 Watt 6 to 8 core will run just as well on the same PSU.
M.2 drive is an upgrade purely based on choice, as is GPU, Case....

I'm getting a 500GB NVMe drive with mine, but i could get that now, and i don't need it for the Ryzen 3000 system, i'll be using the existing Phanteks Enthoo Pro M case, EVGA Supernova 650 GS PSU and MSI Quicksilver 1070 GPU. And 2X 8GB LPX RAM, My NZXT Kraken X31 is 4 years old now but i've looked after it, its clean and working as new, i see no reason to get a new one, its more than capable. You probably will need a new CPU cooler as its a different socket, unless, as NZXT did with mine your vendor will sell you an AM4 bracket for a few £, worth looking into..
I might get a couple 140mm RGB fans, cuz RGB, a couple LED strips, cuz pretty lights for my full side window.

Ah yes I forgot the cooler. The PSU is several years old now, it was purchased with the 4770k, so with degradation and an increasing risk of it going up in smoke it seems like a worthwhile purchase. I’ve seen some last for over a decade but others die after a few years and they can take other components with them.

Lets hope Samsung's 10nm A-die is going to perform well.
With 16Gb/2GB per chip it would give 16GB single rank DIMMs.
B-die itself is moving to EOL stage and while Samsung apparently still takes orders for it that's not going to help with pricing.

It will be a costly upgrade for me as well, prob going to go raid m2's and 32 gig of ram so its a biggie.
Still, will do me for a while.

I could re-use my current RAM, but it's first gen DDR4, that maxes at 2400Mhz. Not nearly good enough for a new workstation.

I'm not sure of m.2 raid myself yet, but the new PCIe 4 drives might be ideal; well depending on their price. Otherwise M.2 RAID 0; and HDD for mirroring to/backups.

I want the 12 core, top end x570, good 32GB RAM, and then the NVMe SSDs

Except that going from an i9 9900k to Ryzen 7 isn't a upgrade at all, but sidegrade.
This is why people expected and hoped for the 12-core offerings.

As an 8086k owner, I’m going to wait. I really don’t see how anything for me would be anything but a side grade, especially as I’m clocking mine to 5.1 GHz and I can go to 5.2 if I put in more voltage, but it’s already pretty toasty even under water. I’ve not seen my CPU being at 100% for any length of time except the one time a month I encode some music files from FLAC to M4A.

For the games I play now (mainly Apex Legends) it does 90-100 FPS on a 120 monitor. Maybe the new COD will tax it some more but by then there’ll be more on the market so I can judge then, especially since things will have matured as well.

I know when i finally bite the bullet its going to cost me a fair penny as ill be doing the trinity of cpu, mobo and ram and im looking for maybe 2-3 years before any major further upgrades for those parts.

Left it waaaay to long on my current platform so now im paying the price a bit as there is no resale value

I think I've mentioned this to you before, get an X56** in there.

Someone mentioned int he other thread they've seen them for £9 on Ebay, so cheap as...chips.

There is no modern multicore game that even comes close to maxing mine, and I run at 1440P UW.

The most I've seen is AC Origins at about 60%+- across all 12 threads, and I think a good chunk of that is down to the Denuvo DRM.

I'm GPU locked in each and every one of them.

Which is why even though I'd like a new shiny 3*** system, I'm going to wait for Zen 3.

I moved from an 5960X to an 8086K and noticed benefits in some games, despite two fewer cores. It’s the clock speed that wins it. Saying that mine was a pig of a clocker and wouldn’t do much beyond 4.

Yeah hopefully the replacement kit will be equal or better while b-die is meant to be available into 2020 at least.

Like many i'm sure until the real world reviews i'm sitting on the fence but want to plan ahead as much as possible :D

No point in me changing if I'm GPU locked.

I need a faster GFX card to make my games go faster.

the hype of ryzen 3000 is going to hit the pockets hard. amd could have priced their cpu's much lower but they went for £500 12c and when you add £500 for x570 motherboard and memory, overclockers inflated pricing it's not a joy ride.

Currently $500 = £394.44

I would imagine all e-tailers will follow price guidance and will not differ by much (unless their are shortages).

I'm buying what your buying then. I'll keep an eye on your posts.
