I assume the main reason is for the memory support? Is there any other real reason to wait?

Reason is for the bigger bios chip, I guess they just added in official support for higher ram speeds but essentially the max is identical but with double size bios
I'm assuming the current tomahawk does the same ram speeds with ryzen 3000
Looks like it comes ready for Zen 2 chips too, hmm. Hopefully it comes out soon and isn't too much more than the standard B450 Tomahawk because I want to buy soon!

Yea it is, it will have the fully fledged bios for all ryzens inc 3000 rather than having to flash to the gimped bios if using ryzen 3000 on the current 16mb bios version. It should be the same RRP really but noticed today Tomahawks gone up in price everywhere.
If it's the same price as what the Tomahawk is today then that's not too bad as that means it'll still be within budget.

I'm sure they will settle around £90 again once the rush is over. No one knows when they are arriving though, theres only two "max" models on the MSI website so far.

A bit of an update on this as it looks like I may have been a bit hasty slating the MSI board. My X570 Gigabyte board arrived yesterday and I still had the same problem - no POST or any sign of it wanting to boot. Looks like it 'might' be a DOA CPU so MB, CPU and RAM (This tested as working in a friends PC) are going back today for OC to double check I've not been a senile old fool and done something stupid.

x570 Elite, good board , just they stripped the Audio down grade to alc1200
no, no for me, ALC 1220 or up
What's the difference between ALC 1220 and 1200? The board I'm looking at has S1220A (Asus Prime). I will be getting an external amplifier (part of a stereo) and decent speakers so I'd like something halfway good. (Although the ALC1150 on my Z87 Sabretooth sounds "fine").

This MSI BIOS ROM size problem, with it being 16mb. My Z87 board has 64mb and the ASUS Prime I'm looking at has 256mb of BIOS ROM. The MSI ROM seems tiny, or am I reading the wrong numbers? Is this why it's only MSI having these problems?
Yep Asus Prime x570 Pro is Fine, same Audio as my Asus Prime X470 Pro
ALC 1150 is fine, that's the old version before ALC 1220,
ALC 1200 is stripped of 7.1 CH ,not sure if anything else

You're taking megabits and megabytes, putting mb after them and thinking they are equal.
MB = Megabyte
Mb = Megabit
The MSI boards have 16MB, which is 128Mb. The Z87 board has 64Mb ROM, which is 8MB, it's half the size of the ROMs on the MSI boards. The Asus Prime board has 32MB, so twice as much as the MSI boards which are having these BIOS issues. It's not so much that the MSI ROMs are tiny, more that they are not enough.
Most 450/470 boards have 16MB ROMs, regardless of manufacturer, so the likely reason why this is only affecting MSI boards, is because their BIOS must be larger than Asus, Gigabyte etc, or at least they are having to strip out more and restructure the BIOS more to fit onto a 16MB ROM.
The Max versions of the 450/470 boards that MSI are releasing will have 32MB ROMs, same size as the X570 boards.
