Surely every app doesn't need to be made to support higher refresh rates on every model and every os? Is it a developer job or a Samsung job. It's bothering me, I need to know why 120Hz isn't just ON and buttery.

I would say it's a Google job - you'll find their apps are the worst offenders and chief among them is the Chrome browser. I also find the YouTube app to be stuttery on loading. The two most polished apps (that require significant scrolling) I've found are Instagram and Flickr.

Eyeing up 2 year contract for the S20 4G. I currently have a Pixel 2 XL which is starting to show its age and paying Three £10/month for SIMO with 8GB/unli/unli.
Mobilephones direct have the S20 4G for £31/month after cashback through them which works out at £744 + topcashback of £44. Works out at around £450 for the phone if you take out my SIMO plan.
Whereas to buy the cheapest S20 4G is currently around £680 from Very...can someone confirm my man maths is correct?

My only query would be can you stack the offered cashback along with TCB? I've heard stories of that going either way.
Secondly, is the cashback automatic? Or is it one of those where you need to submit your bills every 3 months or so? I'm probably getting set in my ways but I tend to avoid those deals now as I know I'll not be bothered to follow up.
**EDIT** I've just found the small print, it's a manual cashback offer.

On the whole it seems a great deal. I have tried to stay SIMO for around the past 10 years (basically since finishing Uni as I can now generally afford to buy my phones outright) however I got a cracking deal on the Pixel 2XL from these guys in 2017 so I jumped on that, worked out much cheaper than buying outright. I just cringe at the thought of being tied into a 24 month contract. I don't know why though, it's not like I'm going anywhere :p.

Yeah it's a manual cashback. I've been on the same simo since uni as well. I tend to keep my phone's for around 2 years anyway and with this deal it's a good saving for a bit of hassle every few months.

Just sold my ultra, I will miss the screen but it was only ever a temp upgrade until the new Xperia comes out. The only thing I won't miss is the camera and the AI post processing otherwise I thought it was a good phone overall. I sold it now as prices were dropping on ebay so I wanted to get the maximum I could..

I have both of those phones sitting next to me on the desk

The Redmi is super impressive for the money but in day to day use it doesn't come close to the S20 ultra as you would imagine.

However that video is embarrassing.

As I wrote in another thread I have been using the S20 Ultra with Dex. It was super Quick in lightroom when I tested it side by side with my laptop. I didn't have it crunching for 30 mins straight though so maybe I just never got to a point where it throttled.

Thats the thing though really isn't it. The s20 is great as a day to day phone but so is my girlfriends motorola g8 plus at a quarter of the cost. If you want to use a phone for Facebook, WhatsApp, take a few photos here and there then we all know you don't need a flagship to have a great experience these days.

But some of us game, I like to do some psp and gamecube emulation and doing other more processor intensive tasks that comes with the territory when you want a flagship device for its power.

But for this 990 exynos to be throttling and under performing as it is, compared to mid range processors and phones is just embarrassing. I've seen throttling and poor performance myself.

Such a shame as everything else about the s20 I love (screen etc). Bar battery life but thats linked to processor too lol.

I never use Spotify but last night, in the middle of the night while I was asleep and while my phone was on charge, some music started coming out of it. It woke me up and it was the Spotify app. I promptly removed it this morning but thought it was odd.

Anyone know anything how Sky prices their phones? I am due an upgrade in June but if I upgrade today I have to pay 37 to end my credit agreement but will get £100 off my next bill and also cashback from Quidco. The problem is yesterday I could get the S20 for 26.50 a month after cashing in 30gb of data but today the price has jumped to 32 per month or 30.95 if I cash in data. I have been watching prices this past few weeks and they seem to change every few days Is there a pricing policy and if so should I wait for a better deal?

Where did you see this?

Mine seems fine now anyway tbh.

Is the latest one.

I had a major issue which was really annoying the hell out of me. Often when I was being called at home, my phone would not ring and the other person would get silence for about 15 seconds then my voicemail.

They would send me a text and ten minutes, sometimes more, I'd get it and call them back.

When I was in the middle of a call, often the line would go completely quiet for 20 seconds, then cut back in, for apparently no reason.

I missed a number of calls from my office due to this issue.

Many things were suggested, wiping the network info, wiping the phone standing on one leg etc. Nothing seemed to work. I was on the verge of sending it back when I read a post about Wifi calling having issues for people. What I discovered was happening was my phone was switching to wifi calling then just stopping working. It would do this during a call which is why it went silent and re-established or sometimes just cut off. It would do when not on a call and this is when it would stop ringing and go to my voicemail. When it switched back to cell tower calls, it would work again. I disabled wifi calling and not had an issue since.
