If it's a completely independent TV station then no however if it's state owned or backed then there would absolutely be a case to answer regarding conflict of interests. MBS is the Chairman of PIF and ultimate ruler of Saudi Arabia, all state owned businesses are ultimately controlled by him.

No but he has been one of the front men for BeIN sports campaign to stop this takeover.

He has an amazing back catalogue of tweets and blog posts showing his hatred for the toon. Think he doesn't like Liverpool also.

If this goes through I'm not sure what would be more fun. Watching transfer rumours or watching that pudding squirm when all his rants come back and bite him on the arse.

He's generally just a bit of a **** and a dinosaur. When he and Gray were on Sky they used to bang on about zonal marking all the time because it was new and they couldn't understand it and they're no different now on beIN. They hate Benitez because on more than one occassion he mocked them (& Jamie Redknapp) in press-conferences when he was at Liverpool. The best thing Keys came out with was telling Benitez to pay for his own transfers when he was Newcastle manager

Yeah he is a ******, I wonder if BeIN Sports will be stripped of their TV rights contract as their Boss Is to stand trial for TV rights corruption, if found guilty that is.

I would like to think so if they are on their moral high horse over Newcastle, or is that ok because Newcastle United are not involved, that’s the way the premier league stand apparently.

Ok, there isn't. And you really need to drop the paranoia about it being Newcastle. I don't think there's any non Newcastle supporter that gives a ****, certainly no more of a **** than had it been any other PL club. Had it been one of the big clubs then the reaction would have been 10000x worse.

And there's a big difference between a PL club being owned by a state that's ruled by somebody that murders people that criticise him and an executive of a TV company taking bribes.

Not really no because Qatar who owns BeIn has the same human rights atrocities as Saudi and the owners of city for that matter. There was non of this when city were taken over by Abu Dhabi

They're certainly not angels and have lots of human rights issues (particularly around slavery) but they're definitely not the same as the Saudi's. There's not been an execution in Qatar for 17 years, the Saudi's are executing 100+ every year. I'm not aware of Qatar locking billionaires in a hotel and torturing them until they hand over their assets nor am I aware of them murdering and decapitating journalists that criticise the state. But again, there's differences between a club being owned by these states and broadcasting rights being sold to them or commercial agreements* between clubs and these states.

*Just like Thaksin Shinawatra's attempts to invest into Liverpool many years ago, Liverpool did choose not to renew a commercial deal it had with Tibet Water following campaigns from supporters just a couple of years ago. Liverpool and Everton, because of the social and political views of the City, are probably two clubs most likely to face the biggest backlash from their own support if they ever entered into commercial deals like this or were sold to one of these Arab states.

Well it's all positive this evening compared to the previous two days.

Yesterday they started to roll out the Mike is not happy story again and the story that 10 prem league clubs are not happy. Last time it was 3!!

Tonight we are getting stories that the tide has turned and the deal is at the end game.

The PL has been in contact with the buyers again and questions have been asked and answered with no major hiccups popping up so far. (I believe this is the second time)

Club financiers have said they see no problem with the deal going though as the owners more than meet the requirements and the only stumbling block is the piracy concerns which there is no clear links and the PL might see this as an opportunity to work with Saudi to help fight it.

They also stated that the lack of an official statement from Mike and the buyers is an excellent sign and this is completely normal and the delay is down to cova 19.

I fully expect the deal to be in jeopardy in tomorrows news!!!

I can't help but think we wouldn't get half this guff if someone didn't spot the updated charter house documents.

You also have to admire Amanda. Gets told to f off and labeled a time waster but comes back a year later determined to get her club.

Giles Watling MP, a Conservative member of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee, has called for that select committee to hold an evidence session on Saudi-based piracy of British sport including Premier League football.

More click bait, considering the government have already said they won’t get involved, you can tell there is nothing else going on. One day project restart the next day Newcastle takeover, rinse and repeat.
Tomorrow will be something about human rights again, the day after tv pirating and the day after that back to the rest of the premier league clubs feel threatened and want to block it

I'd imagine if the Saudi deal does get the go ahead then the Saudi's will want to start cracking down on Piracy, especially if it's on their own service as the extra subs they could get from Bein will mean they can pay more when the next middle east rights come up and Newcastle get a bigger share. The Government have said they won't get involved. They certainly have no issue selling weapons and arms to Saudi Arabia, why should they suddenly be on their high horse about this deal?

Ok sweet cheeks, I will get worried about this falling through if George Caulkin gets worried, zero chance of the government doing anything to block this takeover. The Rueben family funded Johnson’s campaign and Jamie is one of his close pals and committee members.

This is news! Things develop and journalists report these developements. This Times article isn't a regurgitation of old news, it's a new developement in a long running story. A MP, who is a member of this particular select committee has called for his select committee to hear evidence on Saudi piracy. That is news and any right minded journalist would report it, unless they were in Saudi Arabia because they'll end up being murdered and chopped into little pieces.
