DLSS 2.0: why aren’t more people raving about it?

This month DLSS has been added to 9 games, 3 of which are VR games

DLSS has comes to No Man's Sky, AMID EVIL, Aron's Adventure, Everspace 2, Redout: Space Assault, Scavengers, and Wrench. And for the first time, DLSS comes to Virtual Reality headsets in No Man’s Sky, Into The Radius, and Wrench.

Pretty sure DLSS is in effect similar in many cases to the average FPS boost provided by upgrading to a new generation. +50% fps at 4k with a minimal visual impact is simply insane and it will clearly only get better as they refine it.

I genuinely think it is one of the most significant GPU technologies in years. With the sudden increase in uptake (finally), good times are ahead for anyone who want to get more performance and more value out of their GPU's.

I will find out today. Finally one of my games supports it!

I can't be the only one buying titles that I wouldn't normally buy just to play with RT and DLSS. What more incentive to developers/publishers require? :)

Most people could care less about RT don't know about DLSS but in warzone it causes issues with latency so mehh

Also dont forgot most people play at 1080p

Oh people care about RT, they just don't understand what it is or what they are looking at. Their favourite games if not using real time RT will be using pre baked RT.

Battlefield 2042 has been announced as an Nvidia sponsored game (as if there was any doubt).

As such it will get all the goodies like DLSS, RTX etc

why would you use either in a bf game??? the less crap you have going on the better you see people

DLSS Quality is quite good at 4k , but below 4k it needs a lot of work.
I have a rtx 2060 and the 1080p image from DLSS looks witchcraft voodoo like. Well in Control anyway. I have been copying the DLSS 2.2 dll into every game I can. I have had to change the LOD setting in NVidia Profile Inspector to get rid of blurring and the DLSS 2.2 dll gets rid of ghosting in death stranding and Cyberpunk 2077.

All you have to do is copy the new DLSS 2.2 DLL into any game that supports dlss 2.x and it will work. I have had issues. Cyberpunk 2077 will CTD if you keep changing the DLSS settings with the 2.2 DLL.

It's very good at 1440p, so much so that I use it even when I don't need to. The reduction of shimmer is fantastic as is the addition of missing pixels as seen on chain link fencing for example. Are you using an RTX card or just going off other comments?

CP2077 I played through it at 1440p DLSS Quality and it did a pretty good job, over a few hours of gaming though the odd objects which caused trails, some inconsistencies and some objects with for some reason quarter resolution looking textures, etc. were a little immersion breaking and if I booted up the game in Windows 7 without DLSS I immediately noticed the image was sharper even though it wasn't as noticeable while playing with DLSS on.

Did you see the thread on this very forum? 90% of users said they don’t care about RT and wouldn't pay anything extra for it. I’ll link it when I’m at the PC. Link.

Any technology Nvidia keeps for themselves is very bad for the industry. Imagine if Nvidia produces the perfect product which EVERYONE buys - 100% market share causing AMD to stop competing. How much innovation do you think Nvidia will do after that?

Surely the industry needs an open source answer to DLSS that both companies can push further and further? Nvidia pushing it to the max and AMD doing the same?

Instead they're both working on their own thing. Each collaborating with game studios so some games work best on Nvidia and other games work best on AMD.

Yes DLSS is excellent but an open source answer would be even better if both companies worked on it along with other industry experts.

Years ago there was probably a thread asking why people aren't raving about G Sync. Now, years later, surely you agree that an open source answer made more sense? Something you could enjoy regardless of the GPU you bought. As opposed to feeling trapped because your screen only supported one team of GPU.

That's why I don't rave about DLSS. I want both companies to contribute to a tech that's just as good as DLSS. It can be too after further development from both Nvidia and AMD.

The same people probably said they don't care about hdr and wouldn't pay more for an hdr screen yet hdr is moving along nicely - technology doesn't wait for anyone

Hehe I started that thread too and most people wanted HDR. Although it was scary that even 35% thought RT was more important than HDR. Think people were voting with their hearts rather than their head. :p

Gotta say I had no interest in HDR, but the OLED does it so so well I'm looking forward to more games having it! also word that Win11 will have an AutoHDR mode is going to make it less of a ballache :)

AutoHDR is also able to make any game that uses Direct X 11 or 12 use HDR through an SDR to HDR upsample process - it's not perfect, the consoles already have it - SDR to HDR upsampling tends to oversaturate and crush blacks a bit but it's still cool

People still comparing HDR and ray tracing again, oh dear :o Completely different things......

You mean that random reddit user who posted a figure/source which didn't actually show where the numbers came from???? Given sony and microsoft are both pushing ray tracing on their consoles and games are developers are going back to add ray tracing to games, I think it is safe to say people do want ray tracing. Sony, microsoft, developers etc. will know a lot better than some random guy from the internet.

And paying anything extra is not the case anymore, defo was with the 20xx series when both RT and dlss were **** with 2 games on offer. Now it's different.
