When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

If you've been OK waiting for the last 2 years you'll probably be OK waiting probably a couple more months until there's solid evidence of performance, pricing and availability on at least some 4000 series cards. Or maybe a 7000 series card from AMD, depending on how the two series compare. Or maybe a second hand 3000 series cards after the 4000 series is released. Or maybe Intel will surprise everyone and Arc will be available and competitive.

It's a bit different to normal circumstances. It's not like you're just stuck in the "wait until the next release" rut, which can be almost endless. The next gen will be released soon and it's strongly rumoured to be a substantial increase in performance. You've already been waiting a long time due to availability and price inflation.

I'm in a similar situation, with a 1070Ti rather than a 1080. I'm not even looking at the moment.

Do you know how the cost of GPU dies has changed throughout the last 2 years compared to AIB card pricces ?

Was there a massive bump in what NVIDIA / AMD were charging AIB's whilst they were still selling MSRP FE cards ?

Yes, and yes again.... but don't restrict yourself to 2yrs you could easily go back 5yrs or more to see the trend.

Ever wondered why the GA102 die made it into so many product sku's?

There is inflation, almost everything has gone up in price. I definitelty cannot see 4 Series cards dropping in price.
4 Series cards will be expensive cards and will reflect inflation and product price rises. They will be scalped badly. I would'nt wait if I could get a 3 Series card within my budjet as I don't think they will be easy to purchase at msrp soon after release.

There's definitely a chance that could happen. It's up to the individual which route they want to take, over paying now for soon to be old tech or risk paying more for new tech or not getting a card at all. I can manage without for now so I'll take the chance, if you're hardcore gamer or need one then a bird in the hand...as they say ;)

I wouldn't personally buy one this late unless its a very good deal from the second hand market or some silly rare promo deal. We are talking like 40-45ish% of the current cheapest retail price for used and around 60-70% for new retail part, not gonna happen I feel :). Considering the rumours, even with a ton of salt added, I think the current gen of GPUs will look rather slow compared to the next gen. Competition will be fierce which will cause both brands to push performance to get an edge. At least that's the theory I'm currently sticking to.

Sound enough theory imo given how competitive AMD's flagship and high end cards are now. Shifting release dates of lower cards would be nice to see, no idea if that would happen, even if they could given transport etc issues.

That was a good time to buy a 2080ti second hand, after the announcement of the 3000 series and before the great gpu shortage. This time the situation might be different. For current gen new cards we don't know how much 3000 and 6000 series will be left in the retail channel before the next gen come out. For new cards though my experience is they don't usually drop to the lowest price after the next gen is announced, rather at some point after the next gen is actually available to buy.

Unfortunately I think this is a problem that's here to stay, the only way to truly prevent it is if people stop buying the scalped parts at the inflated prices which seems unlikely.

In tandem with some limitations to customers, so obvious ones like regular accounts cannot add multiple cards to an account, at least temporarily (as we know they are a business - but will sell all stock anyhow in this scenario).

Early stories of people buying them for 'mates', family etc. was one thing and then there was different sku's so some bought a 3080/70/60ti - so one thing learned from the competitor restrictions even though it was enforced rather late shall we say.

A part of the problem that really annoyed me is that some genuine long term forum members couldn't get the card they wanted so they bought something like a 3060 Ti to use temporary. Then an opportunity for a 3070 came up so they bought it and sold the 3060 Ti. Then the actual card they wanted originally became available so they bought that and sold the 3070.

That's makes the shortage worse and is unfair to other gamers. Their response "it's my money so I can do what I like"
