News says Putin has been offered a pretty generous offer. Not nearly as generous as what was offered at the start of the war but given the circumstances he'd be lucky if he had enough brain cells to take it.

Supposedly the offer is:

* Russia gets to keep Crimea.
* Anyone in the Kremlin will be given immunity from any war crimes or other criminal charges (does not apply to Russian soldiers).
* Russia will be allowed back into global fold gradually.
* Russia will leave all other territory of Ukraine including Luhansk and Donetsk.

Kherson was taken very early on with little resistance from Ukraine and they've not bombed the **** out of it in the same way that Russia would have done.

It's amazing how in tact the city actually is. That proves you can hit military targets as Ukraine has done for the last few months without hitting the civilians. Russia just destroys cities because they enjoy it

Terrible deal for Ukraine, no way can that be true.

After all this, the people won’t want it. Especially with Russia on the run.

If I were Ukraine I would expect any deal to include something from Russian to put their country back together again.

And NATO membership starting immediately.

I think Ukraine letting Crimea go will be require for a lasting peace.

Ukraine will need to weigh up the possibilty of losing US and maybe European nation support if they don't accept it sadly. Support for sanctions against Russia has waned massively in western nations populations so governments will be looking at their own populations warily.

Agreed, but that doesn't mean they won't have left troops and traps to make retaking the city difficult for Ukraine. A small number of soldiers hidden in the city can make a disproportionate impact since it makes Ukraine sweep the city slowly, carefully, and comprehensively.
Its a death sentence to anyone left behind. Ukraine isn't stupid they will be looking for them.

At this stage I doubt they have tactics in mind, more like escaping a lost cause to defend elsewhere.

After all this with Russia on it's knees, thats to good an offer to be true.

Did Ukraine really go though all this to accept that when it's near impossible for them not to get it all.

Do the west really want all the war criminals, almost as bad as Hitler to get off free? terrible news and shame on them for suggesting it.

Doubtful - troops left behind weren't briefed in advance and there aren't likely to be any major planned traps, most of them are trying to figure out how to escape or surrender right now, I doubt they're going to deliberately make a last stand on behalf of the people who just abandoned them.

There is obviously an issue of some conflict though, roving groups of troops, still armed and with no orders could end having brief firefights then surrendering.. obviously there is some danger so they need to be cautious but I think the notion of groups laying in wait and planning ambushes is rather unlikely.

This is unclear - Putin has been offered? So this has come from the Ukrainians? The Americans?

Whats the source for this as Ukraine offering up Crimea right away would seem to be politically dubious.

Well, it's a possibility for the end result of a negotiation... I seriously doubt that Ukraine would lead with an offer like that thus the request for a source.
I'm under the impression that this is all just speculation and that the came from an unconfirmed Russian "source". Ukraine have already made their stance on negotiations very clear.
Until I see the above confirmed its just ******** as far as I am concerned.
Either way though I very much doubt Zelensky would go for it on those terms, regardless of western backing. However all negotiations require a starting point.

Yup, the starting point would likely be far less generous than that from the Ukrainian perspective, it would be political suicide to start with offering Crimea thus it doesn't really pass the sniff test.

How can starting point be far less generous than that? Crimea hasn’t been Ukraine’s for 8 years now - starting negotiations with complete nonsense like Russia pull out, and Ukraine get everything pre 2014 is not ‘negotiating.’ Negotiating means give and take on both sides (whether it’s right or wrong).

And to be clear, I hate Russia and want to see them gtfo but I’m a realist.

Ukraine will be smelling blood now, I can't see them not trying to get Crimea back. A lot depends on how much, and for how long they get international support though.
Putin's now weak, his forces have been badly knocked about, and they're retreating. That's not the time you offer to negotiate and say they can keep bits of your country.

It’s difficult to see how Russia would agree to anything that leave Crimea in Ukrainian hands. Ukraine need to join NATO, and Russia has a naval base in Crimea. Something has to give.

Russia claimed many of the areas that Ukrain has retaken.

Ukrain is taking back their land.

Thay aren't asking Russia to "agree".
