Popular games you just don't get

Most of the Battle Royale games, perhaps I'm to old, perhaps I cba, but trying COD Warzone, PUBG and Fortnite never really interested me, they became to complex and boring at the same time compared to classic FPS's with last man standing mode.

I actually don't mind BR type games, but what puts me off is they're never suited for very casual players - people who might be able to play for a couple of hours a week. I'm not going to spend what precious gaming time I get being killed repeatedly by players who can play the game for 12+ hours a day.

For me it has to be "Battlegrounds". Its horrible in every aspect, Its clunky, Graphics feel hugely outdated and feels horrible to play movement and animation wise feels like you are playing as a 90 year old.

Never understood why it is was/is so popular.

I'm going to throw the whole crafting/survival genre in here as well.

I'm sorry they just feel like a job.

Collect a million blades of grass to make a stick.
Make 5,634,763 sticks to make a plank.
Join 3 billion planks to make a wooden house.

You idiot you have a wooden house! It's time to start from scratch in the stone age!

Collect 26 billion pebbles to create a rock.
Make 18,426 rocks to make a stone square.
...
Oh and did I mention it's cold, you are starving and there are ******* wolves!?! ... Also those aren't pebbles, they look identical but that is actually gravel.

Can't get into Lol then again it's not new user friendly at all and it's toxic as he'll.

The Witcher 2 and 3, yes there pretty but combat is dull as dish water and when I tried 3 it just didn't gel.

Any souls game and bloodbourne, I like a challenge and will play some games on hard but soon as it enters frustration It's just not fun

That shouldn't really be happening in any that have a decent skill-based matchmaking system. You'll get the odd idiot in Warzone or something using a VPN to get themselves into easier lobbies but it's not that common.

To me they are just roll and slash simulators, very dull.

To each their own as they say, I can't stand BR games or MOBA type games. Prefer story driven games, exploration, mystery, strategy, RPG. That kind of thing.

Same, if I die twice to a same boss/monster I usually alt+f4, cba with such games. Slow games in general (only exception are sims/strategy games). Hack and slash games like Devil May Cry of God of War I play on easiest difficulty, I care about the story and atmosphere and eye candy and sometimes exploring, don't care to much about the gameplay, just cba.

I don't always want tough challenges but I think there is a certain appeal to not just waltzing through games as well. I getcha though, for me the difficulty thing depends on the game and how much effort I want to put into it. As long as the mechanics aren't completely unfair to the player I will usually be happy to try and overcome the odd difficult boss with brute force.

All turn based games apart from Worms
All card based games
All Final Fantasy games
MMOs
Any game that requires you to think deeply about stat points to 'build' your character. Simple stat points is fine (Borderlands/Witcher 3/Cyberpunk), but any further than that is a no go

Red Dead Redemption 2 - I want to love it, it is really good, but I can't play it because I can't cope with how slowly you pick up items when looting etc. Having to slowly pick stuff up and watch that slow animation every time kills the whole game for me

Most 3d games, tbh. It's all just so imprecise and empty.

As an exception I like Dark Souls, because it's tight. And older-style corridor shooters are ok too.

BOTW is a total borefest. I like the SNES and GB Zelda's.

I'm not big into the genre either but I completed Sekiro and it was fun and rewarding, though I think I preferred it as the combat is a bit more fast paced and relies more on blocking than rolling around.

You do get a good sense of achievement from taking down tough bosses or enemies, but you will probably die a bunch of times doing it. There is some scope to explore different parts of the world and get some upgrades though, come back and fight another day when you've unlocked more upgrades :)

I think it's just the way these games are, you will die and learn, and eventually succeed. I think the other Souls games would be too slow for me.

Ghost of Tsushima combat felt kind of similar to Sekiro, but is a bit more forgiving, if you get a chance to play that it's a good game, PS only for now but PC release suspected in the near future.
This was the issue - the 'learning' bit. I dunno if I was missing something, but I didn't see how I was supposed to learn in game. It wasn't at all clear to me at what point during the enemies movements was safe to attack, and I didn't feel like any of the feedback after an attack made it clear what I had done right or wrong and why or how.
So does 'learning' mean check a youtube video? Or am I missing something, and the game does make clear what you are supposed to do to take down an enemy?

Think I'm in the minority. But Multiplayer games these days are rubbish to me.
Last multiplayer game I enjoyed was Unreal Tournament.

I only play single player and mostly for the story, for instance Elden Ring the difficulty puts me right off.

Elden Ring (Or any souls games for that matter.)

It's just not fun. I appreciate the world and enemy designs, I want to like it, but it's the exact opposite experience I want from my time sitting down, playing a game.

BR games for me too. I love FPS but I tend to kill a lot and die a lot all at the same time. This transfers into BR scenarios too. If I engage I usually get a kill or two and then die. Then it's spectate time and that not what I want to do with my time.

Exactly the same for me I like absolutely everything in the game. Except the difficulty, the biggest thing I can't get my head round is why they refuse to offer a difficulty choice, of it had an easy option I'd likely play all there games as it is I'll never try another.

Cod and BF. They're a far cry from the OG games from back in the day, they're massive installs too and so much extra bloat that seems just tedious.

I'm surprised to see so many mention the Dark Souls series.

I've played it only on the odd, rare occasion, and although I used to quite like watching other people play it,
I wasn't as keen on it by any stretch as a player. Furthermore, I found the respawning enemies quite wearing after a while.

I suppose my entry would the more mainstream multiplayer, dare I say child-like games, e.g. Fortnite, etc.
Having said that, though, I have not played it, so maybe my view might change if I dipped my toes in.
If I was to play a modern MP, then something darker and generally more gritty would probably suit me better.

Not up to CoD2 (4 wasn't too bad either, just punkbuster blues) or upto BF2.

From BF3 the rubbish started. MW2 Idk but i recall an outrage because of p2p MP without dedicated servers....

For me I think its the older I get the harder it is to get into newer games.

I'd love to get into something like Anno 1800, but I just can't get my head around it so don't bother. I've Always struggled with turn based games.

Also games like PubG and newer battle field games. Bring back something like bad company 2. Simplistic great shooter. I've often struggled with complex rpgs but I'm forcing witcher 3 on myself and I am enjoying it.

Add Minecraft to the list too

Re Eldenring etc. All the talk of it being hard and you die to stupid stuff, paired with bosses that appear to require button presses like you're playing Parappa the Rapper has ended up with me never playing such games. But they look great visually!

A mate loves them, but couldn't complete Stalker CoP. Yet he talks of Dark Souls feeling like an achievement to beat. Stalker was kinda hard to start (and i played with a controller), but most deaths were never frustrating as they were often entertaining. Dying in Dark Souls just sounds like a pain in the ass to play.

I played Gothic 3 for about 40hrs before giving up as that was hard due to being clunky. Again no fun just dying loads despite levelling up for hours on end.
