O2 - anyone else just had notice of a 17.8% increase

In that case it is working both ways if they're allowing you out of the contract without a penalty.

I wouldn't call that working both ways.

Can I decide to pay less and then say to them if they don't like it they can leave me as a supplier? Or would I still get charged the contracted amount and took to collections?

they are breaking the contract by charging me more than the agreed RPI + 3.9%

yes they are, which is why you can leave without penalty and generally that means threaten to leave and they drop it back to pre price increase or even knock a little more off so the outcome is the same.

I cant do anything canceling Volt O₂ sim unless it stated on the email guess it probably depends when you signed up

Volt customers do not have a right to cancel their O2 SIM unless specifically outlined in the letter or email we sent to you.

Still getting fobbed off between O2 who say I'm definitely paying the termination fee, and VM who immediately transfer me to O2.

This seems pretty clear to me:

O2 T&Cs state (red highlight by me):
3. Your Minimum Period and ending your Agreement - Your Pay Monthly Mobile Agreement has a minimum term called a Minimum Period, which could be as short as 30 days. After the Minimum Period, you can end the Agreement by giving us 30 days' Notice (unless any other statutory or regulatory rules apply) and you will have to pay Charges incurred during this notice period.

Unless specified otherwise (such as in your Tariff Terms), if you want to end the Agreement during the Minimum Period or we end this Agreement as a result of your material breach, then you will have to pay an Early Termination Charge which amounts to no more than your Monthly Subscription Charges multiplied by the number of months left in your Minimum Period, including VAT (calculated at the prevailing rate).

Surely the email I've received "specifies otherwise"?

However, I'm now confused:

The last person I spoke to at O2 is insistent that I am still paying the original £10 I started the contract on last January, despite the fact it went up to £11.17 last April - so it's now going up by 17p to £11.34! But he's also added a £2 discount to my tariff, so I should be paying less.

Assuming he didn't just say that to fob me off, that's a result - yeah, it's barely pocket change, but that's not the point! :p

I think I am in for a few hikes in costs- Just spent a week renewing my BT BB (don't ask) and got it for £19 - Then got two sim cards from EE for £14 -mine has 500mb and wifes got 21gb - How they cocked that up I don't know but I can gift data from hers to mine.
The killer is line rental expires in April so that will be a heavy one off bill.

Nowt's cheap these days

I have had a email saying my virgin will be going up £9. My bill is only £27 so that's a 33% increase. They have said that I can leave if I don't like it. Surely contracts are supposed to work both ways!?

I've already had Vodafone send advertising in the post saying Virgin customers can leave their contract due to their price rises. Seems strange Virgin feel the need to hike prices so much.

i just signed on O2, i dont believe my contract is subject to price rise. anything signed after 4th Feb i believe is not adjustable. anyway it is a 12month SIMO so next year when they rise, i will move onto the next cheaper deal...

got the same thing for my parents phones...looking to move off to Virgin now. 3 months half price for £4 and 30GB & monthly rolling contract...so very flexible.
Who do Virgin use as their supplier, Plusnet use EE and coverage here is good (we have a 5G mast 500feet away and I can glow in the dark).

O2, its decent in London which is where I am. EE is best in my area but O2 gives me full coverage at my house and EE gives me 1bar - go figure.

I have not had much problems with O2 in london tbh. the only time it is a bit sketchy is in door like hospitals. where EE you will get weak signal, but O2 is none...that sort of things. but usually you can get public wifi. Virgin also supports Wifi Calling which is great in these situations.

I know Virgin and O2 had merged but actually last time I checked I believe they used EE strangely.
It was before BT and EE merged, and before that T-mobile originally before merging with Orange to form EE if I remember correctly. Then they were planning to move to Vodafone but then couple of years later got the go ahead to merge with O2.

Got my smarty sim today, activated it and now enjoying 5G tethering current speeds are 330mbps down, 27mbps up, 45ms latency so more than good enough for my needs and cut my bills by almost £50. Coming from Virgin Media M250 the speed I have on 5G is actually way more than I expected, I would have been happy with 50mbps!
