Sony’s PS5 Pro is a pricey test of next-gen consoles
Subsidized console hardware could be coming to an end.

Maybe this is what unsubsidised powerful consoles will cost in the (very near) future...

It's the most stupidly priced console in history, makes the PS3 look good now on release.
£800 + for a new next generation console I can understand.
But not for a mid-generation tarted up version of an existing console that’s been out for 4 years.
Personally I’ll put the money towards buying the new Nintendo switch 2 when that comes out next year.
I love how in the promo video with Mark Cerny the differences they managed to cobble together for comparison were minimal at best. Though no doubt they're the kind of differences certain posters on the gpu forum would be wanting to have a knife fight about.
Why buy this and have ps6 probably 3 years later? Makes almost no sense if you have a ps5 already, but some people have to have the latest gimmick, price be damned.
This is tough to tell, in the leaked documents from the takeover approval, there were cylinder shaped refreshes.Does Microsoft not have any plans to release a competitor to the Pro? You'd think this was a perfect opportunity to trump Sony. The PS4 Pro moved me to Sony from the Xbox One back in the day, no issues going the other way![]()
Microsoft have more concerning issues to address than pumping out another console with no games.Does Microsoft not have any plans to release a competitor to the Pro? I think all the signs are that Microsoft are going to do something very different for the next-generation. Probably leaning more towards software and services than hardware. Either way it's very likely the next MS hardware is going to be expensive too, this is something Phil Spencer has talked about. They have introduced their new 2TB Xbox Series X at £549.99, amongst a new digital only Series X (1TB, £430) but that's it. Ultimately they aren't selling enough Xbox consoles to make a Pro version. You would also have the challenge of three different current Xbox models for developers to support.Does Microsoft not have any plans to release a competitor to the Pro? I mean - there are plenty of pages in this very thread with people saying it is aimed at them potentially.Nope.
Price is a joke, who on earth is this aimed at? I bought a PS4 Pro at launch but not touching this at £700. I have a feeling Sony is testing the waters for higher next gen (PS6) console pricing, this will go down like a lead balloon.
I very much doubt they are making a killing, i'd be surprised if they make £20 profit a controller. Once you deduct VAT, retailer cut, logistics, support, R&D, material, labour.I think they making a killing on controllers, the drift issues seem pretty big, yet they still 1 year warranty and now the price is going up for them.
