It's the most stupidly priced console in history, makes the PS3 look good now on release.

£800 + for a new next generation console I can understand.

But not for a mid-generation tarted up version of an existing console that’s been out for 4 years.

Personally I’ll put the money towards buying the new Nintendo switch 2 when that comes out next year.

There is an ongoing joke that the PS5 is like a PS4 Pro+ (or More Pro) instead of its distinct own generation anyway due to almost every game are still made for both platforms.

In a way they are right, I never felt this generation has really taken off, it’s still all kind of blur out PS4. I played Cyberpunk and GTA V on the PS5, both last gen games and then some.

Don’t have Ratchet or GT7 as I prefer Forza (got GPU), so I’ve never felt that real separation and huge leap yet. I mean how can I when I’m still playing the same games I played on older consoles. Just because they look better doesn’t make it next gen to me.

I love how in the promo video with Mark Cerny the differences they managed to cobble together for comparison were minimal at best. Though no doubt they're the kind of differences certain posters on the gpu forum would be wanting to have a knife fight about.

Why buy this and have ps6 probably 3 years later? Makes almost no sense if you have a ps5 already, but some people have to have the latest gimmick, price be damned.

It was a very bad demo, both in selection of samples:- the Jedi when talked about day tracing…I didn’t see any light sabre in the water reflection. Or the size of the comparison. They way they had to put it in a box, then punch in to zoom to show it….you don’t do that when playing. You don’t pause and you don’t get up and look at the background in the scene.

The choice of demo was weird.

Probably one of the best Youtube videos on the PS5 Pro yet and goes through some informed thoughts, technical breakdown and explanation of the benefits the GPU upgrade will bring (and the why no CPU upgrade etc.). I don't remember the channel or follow, it just came up in my recommendations. Although I also watched the wonderful breakdowns of AC:Origins/Odyssey on PS5/XS:X & PC which are also on the channel.

I don't own a ps5, I'm tempted but it's a lot of money when I could just get a standard digital not really sure.

The presentation showed us we can play ps4 games at 60fps lol

Maybe better to get a 50 series

Does Microsoft not have any plans to release a competitor to the Pro? You'd think this was a perfect opportunity to trump Sony. The PS4 Pro moved me to Sony from the Xbox One back in the day, no issues going the other way :p

This is tough to tell, in the leaked documents from the takeover approval, there were cylinder shaped refreshes.

But reality has seen the 2tb model take its place in that time frame.

So not sure if they canned that, they have talked about building the most powerful machine etc, but this felt next gen,
So I suspect no, I think they would just say buy a pc if not happy with sereis X, hah

Microsoft have more concerning issues to address than pumping out another console with no games.

I think all the signs are that Microsoft are going to do something very different for the next-generation. Probably leaning more towards software and services than hardware. Either way it's very likely the next MS hardware is going to be expensive too, this is something Phil Spencer has talked about. They have introduced their new 2TB Xbox Series X at £549.99, amongst a new digital only Series X (1TB, £430) but that's it. Ultimately they aren't selling enough Xbox consoles to make a Pro version. You would also have the challenge of three different current Xbox models for developers to support.

Nope.

Price is a joke, who on earth is this aimed at? I bought a PS4 Pro at launch but not touching this at £700. I have a feeling Sony is testing the waters for higher next gen (PS6) console pricing, this will go down like a lead balloon.
I mean - there are plenty of pages in this very thread with people saying it is aimed at them potentially.
It is aimed at the 15 - 20% of people who demand the very best from their gaming setup. This device has not been released to be a replacement for the PS5. All 56m PS5's will continue working. All the future bought PS5's will continue working and will get every single game released this generation.
In the same way most Samsung user's don't buy a Galaxy Ultra. Most Google users don't buy a Pixel Pro. Most Apple users don't buy an iPhone MAX.

If you cannot afford it or feel the price-tag is too high then.....it simply wasn't aimed at you.
Don't buy it. The world will continue.

But I can guarantee you plenty will. When it goes on pre-sale on the 23rd, all the units will be snapped up. Those people who buy will be happy with the enhancements it gives them.
For me - if I was buying I'd consider this the PS5.5 and wouldn't look to buy a PS6 at release.
If the PS5 release has shown us something, it has been under-utilised for the main and games have continued to be released for the PS4. So a PS5 Pro now would allow you to play the rest of this generations games with the very best possible fidelity/frame setup and would almost certainly play the first 2-3 years of PS6 releases far closer to how the PS6 can than the base PS5 will.

However, for me it's a principle thing and the price-tag is too high. If it had been £700 with the optical drive I'd have seriously considered.
But it doesn't stop me from seeing that plenty of people are going to buy. No it won't be the end of Sony, no it won't bomb.

I'd somewhat, in my mind, budgeted 650ish at a max for the PS5 Pro - but I was hoping it would come with a disc drive (not for games, but for the blurays that we have here) and so it's a bit disappointing that the 700 quid console defaults to becoming a 790 quid console for me.

I think I'll take the budgeted money, get a nice upgrade to my PC with a 7800x3D/ram/motherboard for 600ish and then see what happens in the next year or so with prices. I still think the PS5 is fine for my current console needs at the moment.

I think they making a killing on controllers, the drift issues seem pretty big, yet they still 1 year warranty and now the price is going up for them.
I very much doubt they are making a killing, i'd be surprised if they make £20 profit a controller. Once you deduct VAT, retailer cut, logistics, support, R&D, material, labour.
